The extremely rare SNES M.A.C.S. light gun for sale on eBay

     Shooters

GoNintendo sure do come across some great eBay auctions. Today, they've come across this extremely rare light gun called the Mult-Purpose Arcade Combat Simulator (M.A.C.S. for short). The M.A.C.S. were designed by the Military to train soldiers in bootcamp back in the day. The gun was designed to look and feel like a real M16 and only worked with a specially designed game cartridge. Players would have to be about seven feet back from the T.V. for the game to actually work too.

There is no copyright info on the game, so no one knows who made it. As for the game itself, it consists of nine levels and aims to help a soldier with their postioning, aiming, and breathing skills. The gun is currently at $36 and the game is at $26, each with six days left in the auction.

Weird that they're selling the two separately.

I'd expect that price to skyrocket in a couple days

That's cool but I have no real reason for wanting it.

@F Whipple: I bet there are a bunch of people that will camp it and bid within the last minute.

That's a replica of an M16A1 not an A2.

I saw a modern version of this they had at SHOT show, it even had a pneumatic ram in the buffer tube to simulate recoil.

Still give me the good ole mouse and keyboard combo for offing virtual hadjis.

That's more like a vietnam style m16, not the a2.

I never even knew this thing existed!
The fact that people would spend a great deal of money on something that really isn't that useful (or cool at that) really baffles me.
For the kind of money I'm expecting those items to fetch, I could easily get the 1080p LCD screen I was planning to get for use with the PS3

@Simmy

LCD for gaming? I don't know if I'd do that. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but isn't plasma for screens that big a much smarter choice?

If you don't understand, you aren't a collector.

I've got plenty of crap that most gamers would think "useless", but is a part of gaming history. I think it's a very unique piece that should find a place in a nice collection or museum

Seems harsh selling the game and gun separately.

I wish I knew a lot about guns just so I could take part in the huge dickwagging contests that take place on gun forums.

The army should start training with these guns.

Ya, that is an A1, and the military does train with things similar to this. They're made to look like M16A2's and the game graphics and mechanics feel like they haven't changed since the 1990's. They're just worthless because of how different they are from real firing and the resolution you have in a real 500 yard distant target. Now if a real developer could put some worthwhile money into a training sim, that'd be cool. The Military loves wasting money on half-baked training ideas.

We used to use this in the Army to train before shooting ranges about 4 years ago.

yeah i've actually used this thing before, it's a pretty cool idea, but as for the "game" portion of it, no so much fun. there's a picture of your sight-posts on the tv, and you have to line up your shots and fire. i was underwhelmed, but having the recoil to your shots was nice. if only shiggy had his hand in development...
