The drought is over: Geometry Wars: Galaxies coming to the Wii and DS photo

Yeah, I know -- the title of this is absolutely ludicrous. First of all, what drought? Secondly, am I saying that the Xbox 360 system seller, Geometry Wars, is coming to not one, but two Nintendo platforms? Impossible!

Nintendo Power is reporting that Kuju Entertainment (the folks behind the GameCube game that was supposed to be Advanced Wars: Under Fire, Battalion Wars) will be bringing Geometry Wars: Galaxies to the Nintendo DS and Wii. Each will have system specific controls (touch and motion, respectively) and are being designed exclusively with Nintendo's systems in mind.

But it gets even crazier than that, because they're also reporting that the game will have a single-player campaign (say what?), as well as (are you sitting down?) multiplayer modes. The games will also contain the greatest game of this generation, Retro Evolved, for fans of the original.

And just when you thought it was going to start getting easier to find a Nintendo Wii ...

It's 400 Microsoft Points for this in XBLA. How much are they planning to charge for this on the Wii? $20? Screw that.

I'm usually not one for the Wii's control type, but so long as the sensitivity is tight (or better, adjustable) this could make Geometry Wars more enjoyable.

Dunno about with a touch-screen, though. You gotta have a full view to dodge and evade in GW, so I don't know how well having your hand, or at least the stylus, in the way is going to work. I also pray they won't settle on a dpad+stylus scheme. I hate having to balance the force on the touchscreen with my moving left hand on the dpad. Feels awkward. Would rock if they let you use two stylus at one time, but with how touchscreens work (at least the ds one) I know this isn't possible.

@ Netik09: From the sound of it, it won't be on VC, and for good reason: this isn't just the original game, it's a ton of brand-new content and what they're making out to be a worthwhile single-player mode. I'd say that's worth it, unless you're a cheapskate.

My only concern is whether I buy this version, buy the original when I eventually get a 360, or buy both (since I'm a consumer whore).

I really wouldn't be surprised if this slowly trickled to most every system. I mean, look at games like Lumines. Started on the PSP, but now it's on the PS2/3 and the 360 as well.

I would honestly pay full price if it was just the XBLA version, I love the hell out of this game. Hope the control is tight.

no way. a game that i can get for 4 bucks on one system should not be sold higher on another system. i dont care it is a different version. VC this or sell it like a burger king game.

I already have this for free on my 360. I'd be interested in the Wii version, but I fucking suck at those games, they're far too busy for me.

oh, man, now i don't need a 360. I'm just curious how this game is coming to the wii. I thought that the dudes who made the original were dudes who worked on Project Gotham Racing or FOrza or something. anyways, I know that they were in Microsoft's pocket. How come it's going to the wii now? That's like Jetpac Evolved going to the PS3. Am I missing something. Jeeze, I am soooooooo freakin stoked.

I love GW...but I can't fathom how using the Wiimote will make this game more fun...the controls are too tight to be handled on the Wii...unless they change the game all I can see is frustration...

first this game was free (pack in with pgr2)
then it was $5 or 400 MS points
it will be at least $19.99 for wii/ds

i just read that an analyst projected that geometry wars will be $70 by 2012 when the ps4 is released.

The controls will probably be similar to Alien Syndrome. Move with the analog on the nunchuk, and fire with the remote using a pointer. If they map the controls well...this could be vereh sexy. Vereh sexy.

This will probably be released on the new original content service (that is supposed to mimic XBox Live Arcade) that has been leaked that we're not supposed to know about yet. ;)

I'm scared to play this on DS.

Hole farming will be so hard when you can't see what's going on because your hand is blocking it.

Honestly, I prefer if it went to retail instead (bargain price of course, like, say, $20). I'm not comfortable with the idea of possibly losing everything I downloaded if by chance the Wii "dies," that's why I don't intend to download stuff, be it Live, VC, or PSN. I don't even want to buy games that's dependent on systems like Steam or are online-centric like MMORPGs.
