The doctor is in, and he'll stop your kids playing Xbox photo

The world of lazy parenting has gotten a shot in the arm with the launch of the GameDr, a brand new invention that will revolutionize the way that children are half-heartedly disciplined by adults who can't be bothered to get up from watching The Price Is Right. The GameDR clamps around a console's plug and can automatically switch off a child's console by cutting the power after a predetermined amount of time.

The device claims to be "tamper proof" and will emit a beeping sound at T-10 and T-1 minutes, giving children time to save, or at least rush for a save point, only to fail and cry. The GameDR cannot be reasoned with, it cannot be argued with. It will not stop until a child's game session has been eliminated.

The Xbox 360 has parental controls that do this internally, but since most people who have squirted out a baby are too stupid to handle condoms, I don't think introducing these advanced concepts would do much good. Thankfully, the GameDR keeps it simple. Just the way Americans like it.

Once upon a time, poor parents had to get up off their arses and cut the power themselves. Now, thanks to yet another electronic surrogate mother, the Mommy and Daddy can kick back and continue to be irresponsible and lazy, while accepting no accountability for their own kids. At just $30, the GameDR can provide you the piece of mind that is just too difficult to acquire through traditional methods such as good parenting.

While I find products like these to be silly, I would not be so quickly to point fingers at bad parenting. While true in many cases, that excuse is used way too frequently because of its simple use, being able to throw such a claim without the need of backing the statement.

Many parents are becoming more lazy everyday, using today's technology as babysitters. But there are many cases were kids just get too out of control for the parents to handle. In the ideal world children would be raised with a level of respect for their parents, but life never really fallows the ideal.

A good example were something like this would come in handy is for when both parents are working, something becoming more common everyday. They are both unavailable to keep an eye on their children, and they just do not have the time to figure out a systems user interface (very silly, but realistic).

While I agree that parents are getting very lazy, you have to take into consideration that kids are little shits. We all were at one point. (Another good case for something like that is in emerging families, were children of one side were raised in a different environment, and need to adjust to the other partners set of expectations and values).

Uh, as far as I can see, this is an American product.

I'm certain that, when/if this hits the European market (probably months afterward), we'll be able to hate on the equally unaccountable British parents as well.

Jesus Christ, calm your reactionary jingoism.

Damn I am late on a responce... BUT the 360 already has parenting controls built in, where you can put a time limit on how long your children play!
What the hell do you need this for?

So, isn't abruptly turning off the power bad for the console? Like, what if the timer ran out while something was installing to HDD?

"The GameDR cannot be reasoned with, it cannot be argued with. It will not stop until a child's game session has been eliminated." Needs to be submitted as their selling point.
