Here is the first trailer for Sega Superstar Tennis. Sonic, Robotnic, Aiai, Beat, Ulala, NiGHTS and Amigo are among some of the characters you will be able to choose from. No gameplay footage as of yet, but don't be too surprised if this turns out to be something like Mario Tennis.

I'm glad to see Sega working on a new IP even if it is a sport title. Of course, they are way late to the party when it comes to these types of titles. Also, I look forward to playing as Dr. Robotnik. I found it extremely funny to see the doctor using a robot attachment to help him at tennis.

[Thanks, Bleach 2! -- Side note, I know Dr. Robotnik's name is different now but I don't care. It's effing retarded and I'm staying true to the retro roots. Respect.]

"but don't be too surprised if this turns out to be something like Mario Tennis."

I don't see much of a problem with that.

Can't wait to play this. I hope a demo comes to XBL and PSN soon.

@DJP3DRO

nice call, I hadn't noticed that.

Also it's a pretty slick trailer and if it plays like mario tennis worth considering as a purchase.

Any game with Samba and Beat that isn't on the Dreamcast is a automatic sell in my book. I would die a happy man if I could play another Jet Grind Radio.

I am totally with urbnayeti on this one. They needa bring back JGR like the Dreamcast version with the actual tag control mechanic, none of that Xbox sequel single button press bullshit.

This trailer didn't make me wanna buy the game too much, but it DID make me wish Nintendo bought Sega so that ALL of these characters could be included in the next Smash Bros. game. Hahaha, I have a sickness for that game.

It's got Ulala in it - ergo I must have it.

Plus Beat and Amigo. I can't wait. I just hope the actual tennis part is good! :P

Eggman ftl. Dr. Robotnik ftw.

Oh, and I LOVE the sound of busting blocks when sonic destroys the ball.

It is being made by Sumo Digital, the group behind the Virtua Tennis games. There is good chance we can get a good game from this.

Whooo! Great music! And hearing those sonic sound effects, it really brings me back to the sonic 1 and 2 days! Yay!
For some reason I'm actually pretty excited about this game!

And robotniks moustache has never looked so damn good! What a man!

eggman just sounds so.... Well it's not a name fitting for an evil genius, that's for sure. Eggman sounds like something i'd hear on a viagra commercial.

In other news, this game can turn out pretty well. I just hope that it has a lot in the way of replayability. As for Nights. lets face it, this is a guy I would not want to play out on a tennis courts, or most any sport for that matter! He's flying! It's unfair I tell you. What if we were playing baseball or something? Get the guy in the outfield and everybody who hits one up and away will be out immediately!

NiGHTS is facking hax I tell you. As for Sonic.. He'd kick some ass at Soccer/Football... Also unfair! Damn you superpowered rodents and supernatural faeries!

Yeah, those old-school sound effects brought me back to Sonic’s glory days on the Genesis. If executed well, this could be quite good...and really, what was the allure of Mario Tennis besides playing tennis with Nintendo characters? I don’t see a problem with Sega trying their hand at it.

Wasn't his original name Dr. Kintobor before he turned evil genius. Then it was Robotnik (Kintobor backwards). Then Sonic called him Eggman to taunt him. So why is his official name Dr. Eggman now? He hates it doesn't he? That is retarded. He'll always be Dr. Robotnik.

@ DanGale: He's called Eggman rather than Robotnik basically to help line up the Jap/English language versions of the story... Wikipedia knows all

That montage of characters reminds me of why I still love Sega so much, even after all the crap they've put out over the years.

"Of course, they are way late to the party when it comes to these types of titles."

Fighters megamix released in 1997 sporting characters from a wide variety of sega games. i mean it had the daytona car as a char ffs lol. Now I thought nintendo started their type of megamixing character games with smash bros in 1999, then following later that year with golf and then tennis in 2000 all on the n64.

I guess sega must be sporting one of those back to the future type time machine cars and went back to 1997 after they 'stole' nintendos idea right? U kno, what with them being 'way late to this party' and all.

I love Sega (as you know), I love Ulala, I love JSRF, I love Nights yeeee, I must have!
And I have no problems with it being like Mario Tennis, unless I have to wait 30 seconds to watch a special move be acted out again.

Hmmm, as long as the powers that each character doesn't get out of control. (Like Mario Strikers) then it shouldn't be too bad.
