Yeah, there has been a lot on The Darkness so far. I wonder if it's...

a) not that great and they are hoping hype will keep it afloat.

b) really good and will blow us away.

c) burning us out on it before we even play it.

this game looks too...eh I dunno I'm just not interested in it. Looks kind of cookie cutter I guess? I'm sure this will be forgotten soon

Good old NeoGAF to the rescue -- from PLAY magazine (UK):

Gorgeous graphics, great story, gritty atmosphere.

Story is "pretty good" - contains some of the "best twists ever in a videogame".

Some of the lip syncing is out of sync slightly but it is not to noticable.

Instead of load screens Jackie is shown posing or "telling a story about his past" - these take place on the subway train as you travel between levels.

Lots of unlockables including an "entire back catologue of Top Cow comics". Adds great replayability.

Lots of side quests - e.g - collecting change from the subway tracks. Helping a vagrant busk with the harmonica.

Gameplay "should take you around 14 hrs depending on how much you want to see".

Score - 91%

I shall be getting this on launch day as soon as Best Buy opens its doors.

Circuit City is selling it for $49.99 for both platforms on the 26th, according to CAG.

Target is selling it for $59.99 with a free $10 Gift Card.

Just FYI.

Fuck Best Buy. Spend your money at game stores. BigBox stores don't need your business, and they (like Walmart has) are the first to fold when the JT-crusaders start spraying goo around. They have the most to lose from a public smear campaign. Game stores are still going to be selling to gamers even if Jack says they're demon spawn. If JT levels that PR gun at big box stores they have to comply, otherwise all the non-gamers that shop there find out they're endorsing school shootings and stop shopping there. That and best buy has some practices that are significantly less than ethical. Like the whole quote-one-price-on-the-internet-and-a-higher-one-in-store-and-when-the-customer-questions-the-higher-price-show-them-an-internal-page-on-a-web-browser-with-the-higher-price-that's-only-viewable-in-store-to-illustrate-that-they-must've-read-the-internets-wrong thing.

Oh yeah, looking forward to the Darkness. I hope it changes up the FPS mould enough to remain interesting, and not just rely on spattered blood for it's kicks.

I hate Best Buy as much as the next guy, but they are the only store in my city to actually get games on their fucking release date.

Whenever a game I want on launch comes out, I call every store here that sells games here. The smaller ones say "well, did you preorder?" and then every other store (other than BB) always say, "nope, that game doesn't come out for 3 more days according to my info." Bastard.

Best Buy has fucked me over multiple times by not accepting perfectly good coupons, so yeah, I hate them too. But at least they can actually get games in on time without the customer needing a preorder.

Why not preorder? I buy all my games from the same gamestop, and they give me all kinds of free shit. It doesn't cost you any more, and you're guaranteed a title on day 1.

Has anyone else noticed that the camera view is really weird in The Darkness? In all the videos I've watched, it took me a while before I finally realised why I always felt a little uncomfortable watching them, and that was because the camera's view is too wide, which makes the arms seem really narrow and pointing towards the centre of the screen. Does anyone know why this is? Are you not looking through his head or something?

Mostly because the EB Games here never gets games in on time. They are always at least a day or two off. Plus, there is this annoying bitch that answers the phone and gives you that "I don't give a fuck about video games and have no idea what I'm talking about" vibe and that pisses me off.

But hey, I still support the store -- if I ever buy a game after launch (which happens 90% of the time), it's always at EB.

Cant wait for this game. Riddick was brilliant, and I love games with a slightly "psycho" twist.

To me, i see The darkness as the a bastard child to Deus Ex, same "free roamish" capabilities, choose your text, level abilities, etc. Should be awesome.
