The Darkness demo released on XBL, multiplayer patch in the works photo

While it would've been nice for there to have been a demo for The Darkness before the game was released, this is still good news for anyone that is on the fence about purchasing the game. The 1.27 GB demo includes three single-player levels, so figuring out whether you hate it or love it shouldn't be too difficult.

This next bit of news is for those of us who have already bought The Darkness, beat it, tried out the multiplayer and realized that a good majority of the online matches are unplayable due to massive amounts of lag being present. The game's MySpace blog had this to say about an upcoming patch:

Right now, it seems that the main cause of the lag is the bandwidth of those hosting multiplayer games.  We didn't get any lag problems during our testing because we have pretty good bandwidth speeds.  We are working on a patch that will hopefully solve this problem.

We aim to release the patch sometime next month for the 360. For PS3 users, we are waiting for Sony's August patch for our update to work. After that happens, we'll fix your multiplayer, too.

If Starbreeze can find away to eliminate the horrible lag, I can honestly see myself giving the multiplayer another shot. Being able to turn into a Darkling, climb up on the ceiling, and wait for your opponent to get just close enough so that you can kill him by pouncing on his head is too much fun, dammit!

This is one of the best demos i've played in a while. the graphics look next gen. the play mechanics are fun and the dialogue is funny. it's also long enough to satisfy you. when you're done. I wish all demos were like this.

Tazar and Snail are going to go nuts over this patch. Too bad the patches won't include better maps. :P

lol I know more maps would've been tits, but the patch will do nicely.

Grim : You like getting served from an unstopable laggy darkling jumping from walls to ceiling too eh?

That's good to know, Orionsaint. While the overall Dtoid review score for The Darkness wasn't terribly high, I think a lot of people will find the story to be entertaining to the point where it's worth the money even if you only play one time though.

I'm so pissed. Sure, while I'm happy that they've announced a patch, I've had to delete an Editor's Note for Saturday. I now have nothing to complain about... I feel vulnerable. *sniffle*

Anyways, awesome news.

A new map is going to be released soon, and apparently a few others in the future. I just hope this patch fixes it perfectly. It'd be nice!

Just downloaded and played it for ten minutes. Anyone else think the controls feel awkward as shit? Even at the highest sensitivity it feels weird. Probably because the cross hair moves faster left and right than it does up and down, which is fucking retarted.

I tried to like the game but it just didn't hold my attention, it doesn't help that creeping dark makes the game way to easy and its the first power you get.

Seriously, find a dark spot, use the creeping darkness, kill something, eat heart to keep it going, rinse repeat.

Darkness does absolutly nothing for me. Is it just me or is this game generic fps #6248912 with pretty graphics?? FPS needs another revolution ie Half Life.

@doomtrain
I'm not either.

@understar
Not going to happen. FPS's have been so recycled, passed around, trampled on and rehashed, that the golden age of "The next great FPS" can only be found in mods.
After HLs release, a few years later the last great FPS was RTCW, everything from then on has been shit.
Which brings me to my question.

Where the fuck are all the original console style games for Xbox360?

fps,fps,fps,fps,fps,racer,fps,racer,fps,fps,3rd person linear, ported,fps,ported,ported fps,racer,rts.....come the fuck on people! I mean jesus, I tried really hard to ignore the 360-is-a-dumbed-dow-pc comments but now it was just in vein!

1.27 Gb Demo? Did they put the game on one DVD or split the game between multiple disks, or is it just really short?

@miketava: I fucking cummed.

It took me about 10 hours to beat it, but I went back to a previous check point and did some additional objectives for a good 4 hours or so.
