The Dante's Inferno demo is up on PSN right now and it looks really good. Nick brought us a video play through of a preview copy in video form above and the game certainly has received a lot of changes since I last played it. What do you all think of the game?
Tecmo sends us bloody mail, Nick reviewed PixelJunk Shooter, Dead Space 2 will have multiplayer, Aliens vs. Predator gets a special edition and more happened on 12/10/09.
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

As for the dante demo, it seems to have a real bad glitch when death grabs you and both of you start spinning around off the platform you fight on... It's kind of weird, at first I thought it was suppost to do that.
about the Inferno demo, my opinion was it was really bad the story sounds like shit i couldn't even finish the demo due to this stupid part where the floor under neath you collapses for no reason. also what pissed me off was this is a shame less semi god of war clone its like lets place Kratos in a crusades era and make him a kick ass yet oddly enough religious bitch. the game play was structured good but the design was horrid. also too much tit for no reason it wasn't hot tit neither it was anatomically correct proportion tit which was making me wonder why tit at all.
@smuckers thanks for letting me have my opinion respectfully, yeah but god of war has that whole damn this fool is killing Greek god and more of a grind house feeling bad but this is really wtf is this bad. idk maybe once it gets to the sin levels it gets better. plus I may be kind of bias because i like the bad assness that the grim reaper has and they made him a wussy.
As I don't know the full story, I can't give you an explanation, but I have a feeling you're reading what they've shown way too literally. I've been able to think of some very interesting explanations for the story progression, even just with what we've seen in the demo. I'm surprisingly intrigued. Also, your seemingly generic complaints seem to mask a bizarre defense of your affinity for God of War, which to be fair, is based on some of the same artistic ancestry.
I hope this doesn't end up being awful. It could so easily go so far either direction, though at least the gameplay looks solid, if not derivative.
@froman i see where your coming from, idk i was just surprised by how much i dug the feel of dante. Its cheesy and silly, but the animated cut-scenes reminded me of that part from pink floyds the wall movie, and the setting felt metal. It's feels kinda like what brutal legend would have been if they had tried to play it straight and not funny. To each his own. i do like god of war and will definitely be picking it up but this demo was an unexpected surprise.
I liked it, it was bold with breasts everywhere (I support breasts in games), at least they didn't sell you the titties via DLC like Saboteur. The oombat was fluid, it was good in my opinion. I will definitely pick it up, I've never played GOW, so I'm not sure how they compare.
The context of the story is vague however, all I remember is breasts. Personally I still have issue with Dante's hero. Why the hell did he sew in the damn cross in his chest? Why does he have a 5 o'clock shadow thing going on? He found time to shave at some point in his mental lapse of reality? Why does he have armor on his shoulders but no armor in any actually important area? Like his freaking chest. I also get the feeling that you have to invest in both unholy and holy powers it would have been more interesting if you could totally invest in one or the other. Like Holy would make use of a sword/shield rather than the scythe. Whatever though I'll still play it.
Oh another thing I didn't like was he was using a 20th century surgical suture when sewing in the cloth, and not a sewing needle. These guys are still using bark resin and parchment to hold on flesh. In the desert the best they had from the Muslim community were ant heads used to pin on your flesh.
I can't believe it, but I prefer Dante's Inferno to Bayonetta. Maybe it's because the PS3 demo for Bayonetta was a technical mess, but I'm surprised regardless.
The story looked interesting, probably more interesting than whatever they come up with for the 4th GoW game. The major problem I have with this game so far is how easy it looks. Even when fighting the Grim Reaper your life bar never went below 90%? You got over a 100-hit 'combo' in the first scene? The sheer number of easy enemies they throw at you is discouraging. Discouraging because if you die, then you need to kill 1000's of easy enemies to get back to where you were. Or worse yet, the developers don't want you to have to play through 1000's of easy enemies again so you never die (or it has no consequence). So far it looks like a few hours of story interspersed with holding down the turbo button. If hard mode reduces the total number of enemies but makes them substantially harder then I might get this game.
Oh my gosh, dare I say the game looks insanely good, although, I also noticed how easy it looks, but come on, the game looks horrific, in a good way ofcourse.
The gameplay is derivative, the story clumsily constructed, and its perpetuation of hyper-masculine and misogynistic videogame tropes is embarrassing. But it's "fun" and has breasts, so it'll sell. That's life for you.
Dante's Inferno, at least in the beginning, cuts confusingly from one plot point to the next while hardly giving the player a moment to consider what happened or why. It's a stark contrast to the very nice comic book we earlier. I realize they don't want to bore players with lots of exposition, but come on, Visceral Games, slow down a little! Game-play-wise, it's fun, and probably as challenging as God of War, but it felt a little more repetitive.
I liked Bayonetta, too, but the story-telling was even worse. Right after introducing the main character in an artsy way, a mysterious voice says something mysterious to her, and it's just utterly jarring how they do it. The incomprehensible cut-scenes that follow aren't any better. On the other hand, game-play is, fun, over-the-top, and rewards skill. I especially liked the move where Bayonetta goes from target to target, blasting everything around her. It's also nice to have a protagonist in a Japanese game that looks like a woman and actually is one.

You kill Death and then there are tits.
