Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Microsoft was good but...
/cliché
But seriously, they all had some pretty good announcements.
It was very close. There is still the rest of the week for Sony to jump over MS, and they might, but MS just caught me even harder than usual.
Sony did pretty well but most of the new stuff is due in 2010, the God of War demo was awesome. I didn't like the PSP Go and the $250 price point turned me off big time. Plus they didn't have any announcement of PS3 Slim and a Pricecut which everyone was asking for, I don't know since like forever?
Sure, Microsoft had Project Natal but I didn't really see how that could be used outside of minigame collections and young boy simulators. Wii Motion Plus is also cool, but Red Steel 2 failed to impress and that's really the only game using it I had interest in. D:
I would say Nintendo and Microsoft tied for second. They didn't make me shit my pants but they announced some neat games and that's all that matters. ;D
It will be fan the MS and Sony fanboys duel to death to debate which waggle is the best
Microsoft had a very good presented presentation, and showed what people wanted to see, cutting away graphs and statistics.
Sony was not as good presented, but I enjoyed the content more, but that is a matter of taste.
Nintendo was boring as hell, in both presentation (look at that tiny tiny little stage!), and in games (4 Mario titles, Metroid and a Vital sensor thing, but no Pikmin or Zelda. I mean, c'mon! They showed the logo of Zelda:Spirit Tracks, said "there is no words that can describe this game", and that's all? No video?... Damn)
As for the motion controls.
I really think Sony is the big winner here. Microsoft is on to something, but they mostly showed us a video, and who knows what really works like they did in the video. They only showed us a concept, and I don't know how that can translate itself into good hardcore game usage.
Sony's controller was all shown live on stage, and it looked really good.
I think the use of controllers and 1:1 movement can be well used in games, both casual and hardcore games, so I am very interested to see how this goes.
For me, Sony was best, but closely followed by Microsoft. That is because Sony showed more of what I care about, and it's all a matter of taste. But they were all very good this year! (Nintendo was good, as in better, they did at least not make an ass out of themselves and no talk about Cammies kids.)
Sony...they showed already known about and multiplatform stuff. Then they showed us the new controller. It looked cool I guess, but it's just as much as a gimmick as anything else. Then Final Fantasy 14 was a shocker, but I'm not really into FF. Agent sounded interesting, but that's it. PSPGo is nice looking, but it's just another PSP. Sure, it's opening up some doors, but I didn't get excited for the DSi or the PSP-3000, so why should I for this?
Nintendo was who really got me. How they're willing to branch out with Metroid: Other M really surprised me. Super Mario Galaxy 2 was a little of a let down, as a wanted a new theme. But the first was great, and this sounds even better. Red Steel 2 looks great. New Super Mario Bros sounds like a blast. Golden Sun is a great franchise, and I'm glad to see it alive again. The stuff that didn't make it really disappointed me, though. I mean, there's no excuse for the lack of the WIP since GCN "Kirby Wii". I was hoping for a Starfox or F-zero as well. Also, there was a lot of crap mixed in with the exciting stuff.
All in all, I say everyone won, but Ubisoft lost. I mean, what the hell is Avatar? Where is Beyond Good and Evil 2?!
That is all.
No, not really.
I thought MS' conference was fantastic in the way it was exactly what the gamers wanted, solid information about the games, and little else. Kojima's trollface was great when he announced that Solid Snake wouldn't be coming to xbox, too. They showed some fantastic exclusives (Crackdown 2 fuck yeah!) and some great new tech, as glitchy as the above gif makes it look. Milo was also cool, but lacks the WOW factor that another application could have given it. Execution of the conference was a bit underwhelming though. I'd give it a 7/10.
Nintendo's conference... well, I personally hated it, but it's not really my kind of genre that Nintendo work with, so Metroid was the only appeal to me here. Can imagine UR MR GAY 2 being a pretty solid game too. Plus there was a hell of a lot of casual influences about keeping in shape, too. Really, I don't think games journalists and enthusiasts are going to be too interested in that. Also, yes, you make lots of money Nintendo. No, I do not want to hear about it. And didn't you bang on about MotionPlus last year? I'd give it a 5/10.
Sony's conference, I loved. And it's annoying that I really want the PSP/PS3 now. Uncharted looked fantastic, AC2 gameplay rendered Ubi's conference obsolete, and then a seemingly never-ending slew of exclusive videos with so much of a sentence in between each. Plus the actual conference itself was done stylishly as hell. Queen soundtrack = Win. The new tech they announced would make the Wii redundant, but I don't see it going mainstream for another two years. 9/10.
And since I'm here:
Ubisoft: WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS.
EA was actually quite good mind. Still a little too much focus on casual gaming that in reality, most of the people there couldn't give a shit about.
I should have made this a CBlog. Oh well.
Plus Natal look faggoty, pointless, Eyetoyish - but Sony's double wand Motion control looks sick!
You need something to hold, you can't just pretend you've got a golf club, bow and arrow, sword and sheild, etc etc in your hands!
Sony and Microsoft 1 and 1a.
Nintendo comes in 3rd.
Sony's was the poorest by far. I really felt they were overcompensating for totally being caught offguard by MS.
Nintendo's was too corporate for its own good. Other M look cool, and make me think that Nintendo need to outsource a lot more, if they can't do stuff in house. Lack of reveals overall though. They are showing more Wii crap, when we want new Pilotwings, Blastcorps, Vortex, Mach Rider....or just some new IP. Nintneod have lost me and I hate to say it, but I'm more convinced to sit out on Wii. They don't listen enough.
MS was the real show stopper. Natal was a pleasant surprise answer to Wii, than Sony's PS3s efforts.
Showing games that are due out soon doesn't really count much any more, we need to know about new product.
I do love how Other M and Epic's Shadow game are similar.
Its a Tie!
Nintendo, go crap in your breakfast...
I have no other reason to give Sony so many props, other than they just rock me with everything they put out. I went without a current gen console for a couple of years while mates bought their 1st, 2nd even 3rd Xbox's I was waiting and saving for my PS3, still playing on my PS2.
It was well worth it. i'm on my first, after 2 years and Sony have fixed the one problem I had for free, well out of warantee.
Sony have earned my custom, my respect, my support and my rantings.
