Minecraft designer Markus "Notch" Persson released it earlier today, along with this tweet: "Any resemblance to anything at all is coincidental." Well, that's reassuring.
Thankfully, he provided more detail in a blog post on mapping. Maps are of specific areas, so the location where you craft one will serve as the center of that individual map. This functionality will be integrated into multiplayer as well, in case you were wondering. Talk about a godsend.
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied:
"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Actually with how the maps work .... you can't

They have a fog of war and only reveal areas you explore while holding the map. So unless you find your lost fortress whilst wielding the map, It shall not be marked upon said map.
On the plus side the Map you will in short order know where your fortress is not.

The server has been gone for quite awhile not, unfortunately. And they don't even read the Google group anymore.
I initially had that problem on Windows 7, but never under Linux wiht only 4GB of RAM and an ION GPU, and I have all the settings turned all the way up. I think I read somewhere that the issue is fixed by running under the Sun 64bit JRE (if you're on a 64bit Windows).
