Dan Kaufman, the lead game designer of Wii first-person shooter The Conduit, has said that he hopes to include voice chat in multiplayer.
"We are exploring the possibility for voice chat," he said. "It is too early to make any promises along these lines, but we agree it could make the game even better!"
How this would be possible -- there's no headset peripheral currently available for the Wii -- is beyond me. It seems unlikely that Kaufman knows something that we don't; between friend codes and the lack of any real communication in any online titles, it seems Nintendo would rather play it safe than sorry. Even crazier is the thought that High Voltage would ship their own peripheral along with the game, but if it opens the flood gates for free communication on the Wii, I'm all for it.
The Conduit is set to release in early 2009.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

I don't like you
There was a test a whileback, I think, revealing that about 60(?) Wii remotes could be connected to the wii at one time. Perhaps a headset can tap into one of these ports?
Also, Nintendo is doing usb peripheral testing. Maybe that includes a headset, or at the very least, Nintendo developing the APIs for USB/Headset/Wii interaction?
Most recently only "geeks and otaku" want more storage space, which we allegedly aren't supposed to interpret as a big "screw off nerds!" to anyone that wants more storage.
that said, they are hiring testers for USB peripherals. No details there, but the prevailign theory/wish is that means they're working on a storage solution/memory space option.
And no, I'm not talking about the graphics. Go to their website and read the story outline. I've seen porn with better plot.
Alright! Let's settle this with some Conduit and voice chat (or skype), when it's released.

Voice chat on Wii, when Nintendo won't even do it themselves properly, is commendable. Such a shame Nintendo is too shit scared to sort it out though. Could still be to The Conduits' benefit, if they can pull it off well.
