The complete Sega Master System collection for $5,000 photo

I'm a huge Sega fan, and it all started with the Sega Master System, so this eBay auction caught my attention. This is the complete Sega Master System collection, and as of this morning the auction stands at $4,995, or Best Offer.

For 5 grand you'll get the entire US North American library as well as the console. That's 114 titles, all in excellent condition, with manuals and cases. After the jump you'll find the full list of games offered.

In this day of official re-releases and emulation, it seems crazy to spend that much money on some old cartridges, but perhaps there's a fellow Sega kid that makes more than this poor blogger somewhere out there. I hope he wins it and plays the sh*t out of Castle of Illusion, Hang-On, Michael Jackson's Moonwalker...

This will never sell for 5k. Personally, the only SMS I've ever played was Phantasy Star, which is a personal favorite. I'd love to own Phantasy Star if only because of what the series meant for me as a youngster.

Besides that, no interest.

$5000 is way too much. $750-$1250 is what it's worth at most.

That is unless there is some super-duper rare game in that collection.

Today I learned America never got the Master System release of 8-bit Sonic 2. No wonder everyone seems to hate the 8-bit game, only europe got the decent Master System version of it...

Personally, I loved the SMS. I played a lot of great RPG titles on it. But, worth $5,000.00, don't think so. There are some great memories from this system, but not worth 5K to have all over again. Phantasy star, one of the best ever!

Hang On/Safari Hunt was the version I had. I used to love the Sega Master System. Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Wonderboy, Alex Kidd In Miracle World.....man oh man. Such a good system.

Ah! But does the battery in the Phantasy Star cartridge still work?

God, I miss my Master System. Never puzzle game as good as Penguin Land.

Just a heads-up, the 4th from the last title should read "Ys" and not "Y's" as it reads there.

Psycho Fox was brutally hard. It was one of those games where the levels were massive, and if you died, you started right at the beginning. I had Transbot at launch, I remember there being no end to that game. I guess my point is that I wish I had a NES.

I had distant fond memories of the SEGA Master System, but 5000 seems a bit much. Still, it would be great to see those classic graph paper covers again!
Also, I still have my Power Base Converter, so I can play the SEGA games I still have... =)

SMS, I played the shit out of Shinobi and Double Dragon. A lot of people dissed the Master System's version of Double Dragon but it had co-op (which was the best part of the arcade model IMO), unlike the NES version.

<3 Master System for life.

@ScreamingFalcon

Unfortunately, even though it's wrong, it's spelled that way right on the box.

For the commenters who would love to get this collection but not pay 5k, how much would do pay for it then? I'm just curious.

Actually, I took a look at this auction weeks ago. Though there are 114 games and there were 114 games released in North America, it isn't a complete US collection. Teddy Boy is missing. Outrun 3-D was never released in North America.

Doubt it will sell for $5k, but some folk really love collections, so we'll see.

Honestly though, this belongs in that videogame museum.

He's missing Great Basketball so it's 99% complete.

Also, he should just buy cheap CIB copies of
Casino Games
Slap Shot
Sports Pad Football
Wonder Boy III Dragon’s Trap

So then he could list this as 100% CIB Sega Master System Collection and set it apart from the loose SMS collections.
