The classic Konami code rocks, this one needs some work [Update] photo
     Metal Gear

As many of you know, the beta for Metal Gear Online is nearly upon us, and unfortunately, it hasn't exactly been as smooth as a baby's bottom -- even in the preliminary stages. If you're like me, you had the unfortunate experience of getting one of those 9-digit codes that seem to work well in the land of the rising sun, but mean little in the land of the free.

Of course, you may have found yourself in the other group of outsiders. These folks are reporting that they have a valid code, but are unable to sign up for a Konami/Game ID. The good news is that Konami and Sony are well aware of these issue, and are doing their best to make things right before the festivities begin on April 21st. The bad news is that I emailed Konami's customer support line early Thursday morning, and I'm still without a working code myself, and it's Saturday.

Not sure if the mix-up is a result of crossed wires on Konami's end, GameStop's end, or both -- but this is anything but cool. Being the trusting fellow that I am, I'm going to rest easy knowing that both companies are doing their best to make sure that the perks of pre-ordering the game are not negated by not being able to use them in fhe first place, come April 21st. Anyone out there share my sentiments?

[Update: Thanks to member Tuggie for pointing out a contact number for getting a replacement code. Worked like a charm.]

theres also the problem of downloading the update for the beta. people have been reporting that it takes a long time. i got the update the minute the beta was available without a problem but hopefully all this stuff will be resolved. something tells me this game will be worth all the trouble. i was a big fan of the online play in metal gear subsistence so i look forward to playing this.

I too have the 9-digit beta code, I e-mailed them early Wed and still nothing. The servers are used for both the beta updates and for the sign up for the ID...that 's some smart thinking on their part. I'm not sure if they completely planned this out or what, but I guess that's the point of a beta...but it doesn't make me feel any better.

@bipolar bears

There's a problem downloading the update via http, no problem using p2p.
People just have to be patient, it downloads eventually

I'm sure many of you have tried this, but make sure the code is put in with CAPS ON like it's written. I tried it initially without caps and it didn't work, then went back and retyped it with all caps and it works. Hope this helps. :)

I just finally got done with my registration that by far is the hardest step. Though I actually had a 12 digit code. However unlike what seems like everyone else I've just been trying twice a day. Some of these guys were freaking trying to register 24 hours a day. Nuts.

When signing up for a Konami ID you create a Konami ID and password and a Gamer ID and Password. But according to the instructions in the beta, neither of these created names will be displayed while playing online. The name you give your character in the beta is what will show up when playing. And, if you REALLY want to participate in the beta, which you all do, just create a European PSN account and download the beta off the Playstation Store. No code required.

You've been able to create a Konami ID for at least a week before the beta download was available. It's kind of silly to complain about not being able to make one when the beta gets released for download. Of course it's going to be down/unresponsive.

I don't think most people knew you had to make a Konami ID beforehand, myself included. The little pamphlet that came with Saga Vol.2 mentioned nothing of the sort.

How are some of you so lucky to have been able to make a Konami ID? I was unaware I even needed one... I have been trying constantly for 3 days no and no luck. Is there anyway one of you tech savvy wizards can create one for me (its for the UK beta so I think it has to be a UK account) and message me the info? It would be greatly appreciated.
I think half the problem is all these idiots that dont even need a Konami ID crashing the site trying to get them thinking thats all they need... how much do you want to bet!?

I'm sure the download speeds are fine for everyone else, its just that my ISP Throttles P2P traffic substantially, so I end up getting BLAZINGLY FAST DOWNLOAD SPEEDS of 2Kb/sec. And since downloading HTTP isn't an option...

@PAULY

i am assuming the error on the server is due to the server not being accesible till the 21st (tomorrow, YIKES!) and well lets see if the servers are ready for the masses at midnight. I myself have an exam tomorrow so at 7 i will try to think about NOT MGSO ...

For those that have not got the update.... select Peer to peer and just let the thing do its job.... took me most of the morning but at least it sticks to it. HTTP just dropped me.

@ Magic AC

Thanks... just went on the playstation blog 'Following that, until gameplay begins on the 21st, you will just receive an error if you try to sign in to play MGO right now.'

Crap...

For dtoids having problems downloading the update... to get the update i just left the p2p run downloading/uploading overnight.... there are probably a lot of people downloading the update and then signing off... this really affects other people still downloading.

bittorrent works if everyone shares what they have downloaded

Konami needs to sort this out. It took too long for the update (My connection is pretty poor and my sister laptop stoal some of the connection) and it took a countless amount of times just to make a Konami ID. Anyway, I think the Game ID and Konami ID are just there for activation purposes. Plus, if someone causes havoc in the Beta, they can just ban them instead of having to go through Sony.

Friday... very close. :D
