The Chilean PS3 ads are fake photo

The Chilean PS3 ads -- one in which pictured a young man giving a blood to a Nazi officer -- were fakes, apparently part of a ‘mock campaign’ created by Chilean design agency BBDO Chile.

In a recent statement (via Kotaku) the agency confirmed that the designs were never approved by SCE and despite this critical fact, were submitted to “various” competitions and festivals without SCE’s blessing. BBDO Chile then apologized to SCE for using the PlayStation brand without its knowledge and misrepresenting the brand “and its values.” Ouch.
This creative design did not involve and was never approved by Sony Computer Entertainment or Sony. This "mock campaign" was developed by BBDO Chile staff and was submitted to various creative competitions/festivals without prior notification or approval from SCE/Sony, and it is not representative of the views or advertising policies of SCE/Sony. BBDO Chile apologizes for using this creative concept without authorization or prior approval, and for its misrepresentation of the PlayStation brand and its values.
We suppose the ads could have been worse. For example, one could have pictured a gamer aiding a Naz--oh right. Well, kudos for the apology to SCE, BBDO.

@Zippyduda Oh hell ya they can be sued, I bet even in Chile they are against this kind of thing. However Sony is a pretty cool cat when it comes to business, this apology might be one of a few conditions to forgiveness.

While the fact these are fake isn't surprising at all, with Sony's track record of shitty adverts I wouldn't have been surprised if these were real.

Can we expect an apology from the various bloggers who shat all over Sony when they thought this was real? Both for the unearned scorn AND the failure to do any factchecking?

I'd love to see the bloggers apologize for what seems to have been a lack of *any* basic fact-checking.

No such thing as bad publicity. Let it be known that PS3s are fueld by Nazis. Can't get more hardcore than that.

So it's a mock Sony ad featuring Nazis...and yet, with their current strategies and state of the company, they're against this advertising campaign why...?

I mean, it's douchey and all...it's a perfect fit.

I love how nobody questioned it's legitimacy. I mean, why should we? It oozes with Sony's distinctive "style".

I find the picture somewhat provacative. Like how the gamer in the bed is giggling while the nurses are looking at him like, "WTF are you laughing at"

hahaha I hope they lose the account

@lehphyro Microsoft and Sony are officially selling their consoles here in Chile….please don´t assume if you don’t know.

Some of Playstation's early ads were so bizarre (crying babies) and so obviously in poor taste (the black/white PSP women wrestling ads) that it was entirely believable that this was a "real" Playstation advertisement.
... maybe Sony could learn something from that.

1) How were the bloggers supposed to know it was fake?

2) Way to cover your tracks Sony. You sly dogs.

@Xzyliac For years BBDO chile has been making fake Sony ads (for advertising festivals)

It’s a very common practice in the ad agencies…. it’s a shame

@Xzyliac I think any company that gets wind of unauthorized use of Nazis in their marketing would want to immediately put the kibosh on that. There's nothing sly or backpedaling about it.

So much for me trying to defend them... well it just sucks. Thing is, they won like 3 different international awards... So they are making them and people in the industry (marketing) are congratulating them... any thing to sell i guess.

How, exactly, did no one in the Chilean PR department think for just one second that someone, possibly the company mentioned within the ad, might be a little pissed off about this?

Hell, I'm pretty sure even Germans are against putting Nazi's in their advertisements.

Well it makes sense.. like I said before.. I thought it was weird that NEW ads would feature the old PS3 Spiderman font.
