Mega Man

With Mega Man 9 on the horizon sometime in September, Capcom has decided to keep building the hype by releasing the original Mega Man to the VC. Even better, they're wasting no time in doing so. The game will drop tomorrow, according to a post on the Capcom Unity Blog. I, for one, welcome back our Robot Masters.

The good news doesn't stop there, though. Early in September, Capcom plans to also release Mega Man 2. If you could see me right now, you would witness a man so full of love for the world. This is my favorite videogame of all time and now I finally have a reason to plug my Wii back in.

The popularity of the Mega Man series and Capcom's love of re-releasing, updating and utterly destroying its good name with endless lousy titles makes this bit of info unsurprising. We all knew the games would find their way to Virtual Console, we just didn't know when.

No word yet on if we'll be seeing more of the franchise, but I think they should probably stop with Mega Man 3. Okay, they can toss in the first three X games, but that's it. You hear me Capcom? No more.

Release 1 and 3 on VC, followed by Mega Man X 1-3, pray 9 does well, and hope they make a Mega Man Powerered Up 2 and 3, and I will be happy.

Why not put Powered Up on WiiWare? The response would be monstrous, especially if they kept the level editor. They'd make millions, I tells ya!

Also coming, according to reports: Ys Book I & II, and Samurai Shodown 2.

They already wasted 1.5 years for doing so.

Also as wilbo said, Europe already had it for over a year.

Yeah, I can't believe this games aren't available for the VC yet. I bought the anniversary collection for the GC, but, with the reverse control scheme, it might as well have been worthless.

MM2 is incredibly overrated. If you want to play the high point of the classic series, play MM6 (the only one that manages to do away with both the energy crisis and platforming item issues.)

A lot of people like to say MM5 is the lowest point of the series, but really, in 2008, MM2 is no better than 5. The original is probably the weakest game by now, but anyone with a love for the series really shouldn't mind that anyway.

As I've said before, this will only bring back rage and disappointment, for me. Mega Man is a cool guy, but I do not want and he's not afraid of anything.

I already have most of the Mega Man games (via the collection discs), but I would buy Powered Up if they released it on WiiWare just for the level editor.

Finally, I will buy these versions. The only way to make this better for me would be to put them on XBLA.

Awesome. Despite having the collection disk, I'm still buying this. Mega Man 1 and 2 are by far the best in the series. Best level design, best music, best boss concepts, best gameplay, all to be found in Mega Man 1 and 2.

And I don't know why people say Mega Man 5 is so bad. It's way better than 3,4, and 6.

Honestly, why should you pay $5 for a single game when you can pay about $10 for the Anniversary Collection and get all 6 games plus the two fighting games?

I have both Anniversary Collections and I'll be sticking with them, thanks. Still want Megaman 9 though.
madninja's Avatar
madninja at 08/03/2008 18:28
Megaman 3 is still the best, and Anniversary Collections is still in my Gamecube since it came out and is still playing on one of my TVs. So amazing.

Also Jonathan you have betrayed me saying that 5 is better than 3 or that 1 is better than 3. If you think that, then you sir aren't a Megaman fan.

@protomark: Actually, the only cartridges of the Mega Man series I don't have are Mega Man 4 and Mega Man X2. I'd just like to be able to play it in stereo using a controller that resembles the one for NES.

In before Dexter hates on Mega . . . Dang it!

Also, I think there's some value in owning just the the plain 500 point Mega Man on VC.

If its following the trend of most other VC games, the title will be pretty much unfucked with. So it will at one not have the annoying "Navi" hint popups that the Anniversary collection does, and wont' have the slightly SNES looking snazzy Health and Weapon meters from the Collection. And And, maybe the select-elec cheat will work on the rock dude in Wily's castle (I don't think it worked in the Collection)

Also, that Mega Man II oughtta have that two difficulty levesl found in the original NA release.

Petty purist, archival collectionist nitpicks, I'll admit. But I'm in fact kinda psyched about playing the game with the sideways remote.

I'm willing to bet it will have the difficulty levels, because I just downloaded a cell phone version of Mega Man 2 and it has them.

aw jonathan why? mega man 3 is by far the dopest in the series in my eyes. one reason is because the music cant be touched, but there are a lot of nostalgic reasons tied to it as well.

capcom.. please also release rockman: mega world on the vc, or "mega man the wiley wars" that was an amazing compilation, if they didnt just upscale some of the sprites.. it would have been perfect.
