[Update: The update still hasn't gone live due to server issues, it will launch when they are back up. No word on when that might be, however.]
Halloween is upon us, guys and ghouls. For many of us it's an excuse to dress up and wake up in a puddle of vomit next to a slutty nurse or some dude dressed up as Edward from Twilight. But for Edmund McMillen it's an excuse to add some more evil to the world. Specifically, he's added 20 percent more evil to The Binding of Isaac. I think that's a fairly reasonable figure, I mean we don't want the game to spring to life and murder us all.
This evil comes in the form of a variety of additions, including new bosses and enemies, new music and lots of lovely, and likely gruesome, items. The biggest additions are a new playable character, Eve, and a new chapter which is unlocked once you kill Mom ten times. I'm rubbish, so killing her ten times seems like a tall order. But one I'm happy to attempt.
Here's the full list of additions:
Chapter 5 (unlocked after 10 mom kills)
3+ new bosses
4 new enemies
20+ new items
One new unlockable character (Eve)
One new "Final" ending
6+ new achievements
2 new music tracks
Updated collection viewer
4 new tarot cards
There's also been some bug fixes and improvements to load times. The update went live at 12pm PST Unfortunately the update has been delayed, so go immerse yourselves in evil somewhere else.
Hmm, I don't seem to have gotten the update yet.
I was just playing the game, beat The Womb for like the 8th time.
It says I have 14 Mom kills.
...Collection view seems the same.
Now if only I can get past that legion of zombies that can jump obstacles and spew projectiles on landing... How the heck can anyone get even one Mom kill?
THIS GAME IS SOOOOO GOOD. I'll have to play SMB instead until the update goes live. I was just glad I could finally get my 11th mom Kill w/ ??? to unlock the D6. Still have like four items to find, tho.
Is anyone else finding the game... surprisingly easy? I mean, I've beaten The Womb (I think) six times, and at this point I feel like I'm beating the whole thing on most of my runs. I promise you, I'm not exceptionally talented at Zelda clones or roguelikes (or however you want to classify this game). Anyone else finding it like this?
I should note, I'm still finding it extremely satisfying. I'm just not seeing the soul-crushing difficulty that others seem to be having.
I normally get to around the depths before dying (stupid jumpers), but, if I can get past that, the womb's a piece of cake. If you can get steamrollin with items early, then you're all set, but I still die due to every item room having a pickup item instead of an upgrade, or things of that nature. It's not ball crushingly hard, it's just....luck, maaaaaan
For anyone who picked up the Voxatron Humble Bundle yesterday you now own a copy of Binding of Isaac!
Also, anyone buying the Voxatron Humble Bundle now will receive Binding of Isaac and Blocks that Matter if they pay above the average donation (currently about $5) http://www.humblebundle.com/
21 mom kills here, is anyone else as obsessed with this game as I am? I've spent over 100 hours playing it since release day. I don't find it to be extremely easy (69 deaths) but the game is amazingly rewarding and has it's super easy moments depending on items/pickups.
