The Behemoth working on a new title, more information is required photo

The Behemoth (of Castle Crashers fame) has another game in the works. According to a posting by Dan Paladin on the developer’s blog, the studio is currently “prototyping” a new title. Paladin wrote that it is “off to a very strong & solid start,” and people who have played it are digging it.

The game’s substance, name, and platform are currently a mystery. Paladin suggested that The Behemoth might tease fans into a guessing game by periodically offering images. However, Paladin playfully added that he might just kill speculation by announcing the title.

I’ve got an idea, Dan. If you’re tired of wearing that crown -- I know it’s heavy -- for Best Blogger of 2009, feel free to shoot me an e-mail with assets and the name of the game. I’ll tell the entire Internet and then I will become the Best Blogger of 2009. No one man should have to carry that burden alone. I’m here for you. Always.

(P.S. Castle Crashers rocked.)

Why are you all a bunch of negatons? The Behemoth has been dedicating on making pure fated 2D games made in great artork (Dan Paladin's to be specific)

They already made a Metal Slug homage (Alien Hominid) and one for Battletoads (Castle Crashers)

Just give them a chance if you are really pissed of them, it wasn't their fault the online patch took so long.

argh.. dan is the man and he will always have my vote for crazy artist to inspire to be and a goddamn creative mastermind to boot with the games under his belt. I for one..(well it looks like 3) ..cannot wait for this new game :] i hope its a schmup as well. Or a full on 700 hour sprite based RPG with MMO elements! :]

also, please.

Wait ... what? What Castle Crashers fiasco? I just bought it today, and I think it's a great game. What happened that I don't know about?

Hilarious.

So much anger.

If I do not buy this next game it will be on its merits, not on a grudge held because of a delayed patch.

Even with its flaws, I've enjoyed CC immensely. Tards.

@Detry: CC had merits, and many people bought it for such. Then we all discovered some of the major flaws, none of which were mentioned in the reviews. It's like dating a hot girl and then finding she has herpes.

I'll decide to buy the next game on its merits, but I'm certainly going to wait and see. I think many dtoiders share that opinion

alien Hominid HD didn't have any horrible bugs, and castle crashers was an ambitious title with what it has, so I'm giving them the benefit of a doubt.

I found Alien Hominid boring, nice visuals but the gameplay was nothing interesting and CC well, its a good beat-em-up, best with friends and the selling point was broken for almost 6 months.

I don't care about the deleted save files, what bothered me is the fact that the game came out like that, that wasn't a simple bug, that was a major glitch that should have been caught in testing.

And now we have the DLC, yes its priced low but the fact remains that its in-game content, MS doesn't tell companies to withhold thing, they just tell them to charge for them, to me it just seems like a way to gouge more points of us and its a slap in the face after releasing a broken game.

So no, I won't be buying this, I won't even follow it, I've had enough of the Behemoth and their overhyped games and we all know very well that if their title has bugs, they won't be mentioned in reviews.

Everyone saying they won't be getting this game because of the Castle Crashers "fiasco" have to learn the facts. The patch took so long because of Microsoft, and it was done for a WHILE.

Just as we say about game related crimes, please learn the facts first.

Oh please. I think MS was a cunt for holding that patch for so long, but let's not suddenly decide The Behemoth is a bad studio after one fuck up. I merit you, it's a big fuck up, albeit one they couldn't have reasonably predicted, but let's not get on our gaming high horses and pretend like they have some history of shitty games.

They're a new dev team. The game was amazing. It had a problem that they didn't rightly expect and Microsoft fucked them in the ass over the patch issue.

Worse companies get more chances than some of you are giving The Behemoth. Nailing the studio to the cross over one network flaw in what was undoubtedly a fantastic videogame is quite snotty behavior.

I'm looking forward to it, and I'm sure that whenever it's announced, a few "no thanks" people will change their tune.

@jim. Excited for a title you know absolutely nothing about? I smell a little something to the tune of "Put me in the credits too". Is it possible to review a game in all honesty from any member of this staff due to some of them appearing in the credits? I think not. If this was any other company destructoid would have flamed them.
Oh Yeh.... I went there.

"@jim. Excited for a title you know absolutely nothing about? I smell a little something to the tune of "Put me in the credits too"."

That's a rather sad and sorry accusation mate, and I never said I was excited. I said I was looking forward to it, as any reasonable man is when a developer he likes says something is in the works. I get just as intrigued when Kojima says he's working on something. Let's not resort to rather ridiculous accusations to get our point across.

The game was not broken. The game itself was perfectly designed. I didn't buy the DLC because unfortunately the save data bug demoralized me when it took all my hard work away. That sucks, but I'm not about to be angry at The Behemoth for it because at least the game was good. Most games with bugs like that can't say the same.

I don't really wanna play CC again because of what the bug did, certainly, but that doesn't mean I'm going to write off The Behemoth as some massive failure when they aren't.

I enjoyed Castle Crashers and Alien Hominid just as much as the next guy, so I'm hoping that this next game will be just as enjoyable.

As far faith in The Behemoth, or lack thereof, I'm not entirely sure where I stand on it. Yes, the game did have some serious flaws that could, and should have been fixed before the game was ever considered for release. However, they weren't. I understand both sides of the argument of whether The Behemoth are complete dicks or not, but I really think that the issues of Castle Crashers shouldn't be influencing the feelings toward a [hopefully] complete separate game.

As far as the anger over the issue of DLC is concerned, I'm moreso with the group of people who feel they shouldn't have been charged for it. I understand that sometimes DLC does have a place in a game, but in some cases, like this one, having to pay for it seemed a bit...absurd. Though I suppose DLC is something that requires a whole other conversation.

tl;dr - I'm hopeful that game will be good, CC issues or not.

I suppose I'm one of the lucky ones that didn't lose any save data on Castle Crashers. I did have trouble playing online with friends, and still am after the patch (in fairness, I've only tried once)

I bought the DLC, although I would have rather had it for free. I'd gladly pay for more "levels" or an expansion pack of some sort.

I still support The Behemoth. I can't wait to see what's next.

I enjoyed CC a lot, but seriously any hope of multiplaying another of their multiplayer titles at launch is pretty much dashed. It doesn't even matter who was responsible for that fiasco, since even if it was MS stalling, you are still stuck with the same companies it in the future.

We'll see in 2-3 years I guess :P

I bought castle crashers primarily for online gameplay. I played with 1 random person I was lucky enough to find on game release and he kept getting disconnected but I kept inviting and we pushed through to the end.

Problem is I kept wanting to play with other people, maybe even a full party online. I could not! because the game was far too glitchy. I lost interest eventually and this late I don't even feel like loading it back up. Sure I could of played offline but thats kind of boring since its a team game even up to the end boss challenge which makes it all the better ;)

I did some research on the data loss issue (before the DLC and patch was released) and apparently the people who were having such data loss issues were people who were attempting to download the game to more than one Xbox. Thus causing confusion on the live servers when it reads that 2 people have the same copy of Castle Crashers. Know how I fixed my data loss issue? I went to xbox.com and transferred the license from one console to the other. And guess what? My data loss issues went away! I think that every last one of you who is having the data loss issue is and was attempting to install one game on two systems. Thus ripping off Behemoth and shitting on their hard work.
I kept up with the issues, I followed the blog that Dan Paladin had. He submitted the patch to MS and they sat on it during the holiday months. Creating more strife, and stress on people who wished to play the game how it was supposed to be played. I fixed my data loss issue. I also bought a second copy of this game because I enjoyed it THAT MUCH. The people having data loss issues are people that did it to themselves by trying to rip off The Behemoth. You attempted to take your game from system to system without going through the proper channels.. so guess what? You didn't follow instructions, so your game fucked up. YOUR fault. Not The Behemoths.

It surprises me to see people on a gaming website flame the hell out of a company that obviously loves games and (from the price of their games) love gamers. The DLC didn't cost a whole lot, and if you got 2000 points to play CC then you have about 400 (or is it 200?) points left over.. why not get the king rather than some fucking dumb ass gamer pics.

I've been playing Newgrounds games since the late 90's. I was stoked when I found out they started making video games. And now I support them by telling others that their games kick ass, and buying their software. I even bought an Xbox to play castle crashers.

Any neigh sayers because of data loss issues or even a lengthy patch process are pointing their fingers at the wrong people. Blame yourself for buying a Microsoft product, blame yourself for trying to rip off these people.
Stop blaming the people who are not at fault. the online issues are fixed, the data loss issues are fixed. Stop complaining and fucking play some fucking games.
/end rant
