Oh my God. What the hell is going on here. When I started watching a few videos found by Siliconera of Star Ocean: The Last Hope gameplay, I expected a bit of craziness in the battle scenes, but I didn't expect blinding chaos.
Like in this video above: the party walks up on some unassuming tree in the forest. Okay, so it's a monster tree. But it's not like the tree was doing anything bad. Regardless, the party goes absolutely apesh*t on the poor thing, hitting it with holy arrows and oversized beam cannons and whatnot. Then, after the tree dies, light flashes from the sky and angry giant bees come out of the wood work. What the hell is going on here.
As crazy as they are, these videos of SO:TLH's battles look pretty good. There's two more after the jump for you.
Star Ocean fans, what do you think about this upgraded battle system?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Overall, I am very excited about what I've seen in these videos and others. I can't wait for this to release, and I'm hoping beyond hopes that they'll release a demo on live, but I doubt that will happen two weeks before the JP release/ 3 weeks before the US release.
I personally don't see how different it is from SO3 *aside battling. not that MP draning crap). Besides the view. But I guess the game needs to be played for that.
I wish battles in WoW looked more insane and intense like this.
To me, it really looks like they tweaked the system from VP2, what with it taking place in a big field, just that...well, it's blended with SO goodness.
I honestly wish they'd release some sort of pack-in deal with SO4+Xbox. I'd get it!
Did you see screens or a movie of the Final Fantasy XIII 360 version? No? Then don't say it puts it to shame. What you saw was the PS3 version of FFXIII, no one knows what it will look like on the 360.
But still, I'll be buying SO4 when it's released.
I was sold when I saw this over a year ago:
And, as for the combat system, it looks as though it's the same as the two previous Star Oceans, but a whole lot more eye candy and boobage.
I"M SOLD!
:/
That and it looks like it runs at about 40 FPS. Hopefully they fix it before release :(
Btw, I'd like to grab control of that heavy weapons fella. According to the last video, he rules. :OD
