The Ballad of Gay Tony available on Xbox LIVE photo

As expected, the next GTA IV episode is now. The downloadable version of Grand Theft Auto: "The Ballad of Gay Tony" is live on Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

Weighing in at a modest 2 GB and priced at 1,600 Microsoft Banana Bucks, the latest episode brings new vehicles, new weapons, new game modes and, more importantly, a fresh narrative starring Luis Lopez, a protector of sorts for the nightclubs owned “impresario” Tony Prince.

As Major Nelson points out in his post, this episode is available on as a stand-alone retail disc, coupled with its predecessor downloadable “The Lost and the Damned.” This disc, dubbed Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, is listed by the GameStop database as “shipping” this morning, so it may or may not be on shelves quite yet.

We’re playing this thing.  Are you digging it?

I'll be getting the stand-alone disc, I hope both episodes live up to all the glowing reviews they have been getting.

I plan on beating the lost and the damned before I get this. Too many games to play.

Is the retail disc a forced install of the DLC packs, or is it truly stand alone? I got a 20GB pro back when the price dropped...hard drive space is at a premium round them parts.

I played through TLAD in one Saturday after I got pulled into the story. I aim to do the same with Ballad---once I finally get to it.

@OedipusPrime

It's standalone. No need to own the original to play.

I'm looking forward to it, but I have no space on my HardDrive

If you get the Episodes From Liberty City disc, is it still a download or can you run the game directly from the disc?

I'm only marginally interested in the Lost and Damned, but having both episodes is a bit tempting. Should I bother getting the disc or should I just download Gay Tony?

*Crosses fingers for PC version at some point*

Platform exclusies really annoy me, especially when the platforms are so seperate like the PC and Xbox. And yes, that goes the other way too, you guys deserve to play Crysis and The Witcher.

I really enjoyed Lost and Damned. It put a lot more emphasis on the story than Gay Tony appears to (just judging by what I've read), but it's got some great new characters and some fun new weapons. The story kinda fizzles out toward the end, but it was definitely worth the $20 to me.

I didn't buy The Lost and Damned until it was the deal of the week on the marketplace but that was so good I couldn't hold off on this episode and downloaded before I went to bed last night.

I downloaded this 12 hours ago, but I also get Borderlands at nmidnight. I hate it when two games come along at once.

Lost and damned is awesome! I give it 4 out of five. 4 because it had a seriously anti-climactic ending. Overall though, this's a SMALL let down.

Just installing my GTA4 disc for this new DLC. then I'm playing BoGT the whole way through so I don't know much more than anyone else. Heard it's good though. :-)
