These lists need Red Faction: Guerrilla. Aside from Borderlands, I can't think of a game I've had more fun with all year. Maybe Battlefield 1943.
the exclusion of modern warfare 2 seems to me like a very forced artificial attempt for a manistrem organisation to sppear non conformist and less pedestrian then there equally clueless peers like time. im not saying it deserves to be on the list. I havent played it so i cant really say, but im suprised its not

Pretty good list but I'd probably put Resident Evil 5, Killzone 2 and BlazBlue on there instead of a couple of those.

Removing games not yet on PC that comes out to 1) Dragon Age, 2) Batman and 3) Borderlands, which is actually surprisingly accurate for me.
I'd have put Need for Speed Shift over Forza 3, but I am DAMN thrilled to see Ratchet and Clank up there. I liked it better then U2, and I loved U2. It is a bit surprising to not see MW2 up there, and something I would probably change, most likely in place of inFamous, which was a great game, but Im not so sure it was top 10 material, especially not over KZ2.
Given what a good year it was for Sony, this list doesn't strike me as particularly biased. Infamous probably shouldn't be on it though, and this is from a person who really likes Infamous
This list is a LOT better than Time's. I mean, DJ Hero, random iPhone game, Halo: ODST on the list? That's some weird sh*t there. This list has many flaws too. Like... Assassin's Creed 2 in 2nd place. Come on, the game's not that good. Also, inFAMOUS. A good game, but also, not good enough to get in the TOP 10 2009 GsOTY. Prototype was better. MW2 maybe deserves a spot there (Not 1st, btw) and Street Fighter 4 too. Actually... no. Since SSFIV is coming. That will deserve a spot on GsOTY lists. 2010 ones. Anyway, TSP List >> Times List

No Demon's Souls or Killzone 2? R&C shouldn't be on the list...while a enjoyable & good looking, it did little to push the series or genre forward. I also can't believe AC2 is on the list...just as blech as AC.
That's not even the best Mario title of the year. List is pretty bad and overly weighted not necessarily towards a particular console, but action titles.
The only entry that seems dubious here is the inclusion of inFAMOUS and the exclusion of SFIV. CoD:MW2 being left off isn't unsurprising, it's the AP, of course they are playing it safe. Other than that the only even slightly controversial entry is GTA Chinatown Wars and from memory even that slipped under the radar (of both reactionary media and gamers alike.)

Surprised but kinda glad that Modern Warfare 2 isn't on this list. I'm not a fan of the game- technically I'm not a fan of the series in general- but that game just sounds very awards bait-y.

This is a much better list. Though as much as I liked AC2, it's way too high. Dragon Age is certainly the better game when it boils down to it.

Agreed. MW 2 was an over hyped piece of crap. It was MP game with a tacked on Single Player. MW 1 was awesome. With 2 IW went overboard. Zero pacing, extremely frustrating combat, shit story. Why would it be in the best games. Just cause it had hype, and just because these guys made a better game in the past does not qualify them to have one of the best games of the year.

Definitely a better list than Time's, but still flawed, although of course these are all highly subjective opinions. Replace Infamous with Modern Warfare 2 and it would make a bit more sense. And I must say I'm quite happy to see Bowser's Inside Story getting some love.
I still think it's hilarious when people talk about MW2 like it isn't at all a good game. It's like either they were expecting the second coming, or are too stuck up to acknowledge that quite possibly the largest entertainment release ever might be good. I'm not saying that it deserves to be perched atop every "best games of the year" list, or even on those lists, but still, when people forcefully assert that it's a shit game, I think it's ludicrous because millions upon millions of people are playing the fuck out of it and it gains near universal praise.

@Xzyliac: Uncharted 2 is pretty fucking awesome. It deserves to be on the list imo... maybe not #1... but definitely top 3.
Mainstream media best of lists (in any genre of entertainment) basically amounts to putting all the games released that year that were heard of by the average consumer on a dart board, getting blackout drunk, and throwing until ten games are picked. If the dart happens to land on a game that wasn't included on the board (say, it bounces off Grandma Doris, into the fish tank, and is spat out at inFamous), then that game is included instead, because that's what Jesus would have wanted.
I am more confortable with this top ten list then the one that came from Times Magazine earlier today...
