The anatomy of Evolve - interview

10:00 AM on 02.11.2014

Our own gentle giant, Max Scoville, had a chat recently with Denby Grace of 2K Games about their upcoming title, Evolve. In case you missed it, Evolve is being developed by Turtle Rock Studios, the minds behind the Left 4 Dead series. Max got the scoop on some of the finer points of gameplay in this "4v1" clash of predator and prey.

After sifting through the game footage for this video, I'm thoroughly intrigued by the unusual concepts presented in Evolve. Knowing this game comes from the people who crafted the remarkable AI in L4D, I'm rather excited at the idea of a new multiplayer game I can just play by myself when my friends aren't around. *cough*Payday 2*cough*

Turtle Rock co-founder Chris Ashton has some long term goals for Evolve, which includes supporting it with DLC "more so than any game ever before," he told OXM. "You know, in Left 4 Dead we could make new environments, b...more

Go ahead and 3D print these Evolve figures, you early adopter

I have no idea what people with 3D printers do. Do they ever print more 3D printers? I'd probably print statues of myself because I'm extremely vain like that. I'd give one to all my neighbors, because I assume that they all...more

Want in on the Evolve closed alpha? Here's your chance!

Evolve is shaping up to be a pretty decent game. It won a bunch of awards at E3 including the Game Critics Awards' Best of Show. I played it in May and had a fantastic time with it. If you'd rather get your hands on it t...more

Evolve's beta and DLC will hit first on Xbox One

Turtle Rock's Evolve had a short role in Microsoft's press conference today. Apart from a short teaser trailer, 2K announced that Xbox One users will have access to a beta. Further, Xbox One will have a timed-exclusive ...more

Evolve's new hunters video shows how the new hunters do their hunting

I spent some undisclosed amount of time writing up a preview about the changes that were made to Evolve since the last time that we saw it, and then Turtle Rock Studios went ahead and made a video, effectively rendering my words obsolete. Who reads when picture movies can be beamed into your eyes with little to no effort? Jerks.more

Evolve goes monster hunting on October 21

Prospective hunters: ready your guns and steel your nerves. On October 21, Evolve hits store shelves, at which point you can track down and attempt to kill gargantuan monsters as often as your little hearts desire. While...more

Evolve is making advances toward infinite replayability

Evolve, the asymmetrical four-versus-one multiplayer game from Turtle Rock Studios, is built around the titular premise of growing, becoming stronger, (dare I say it?) evolving. In game, this is called "staging up." As the mo...more

Evolve has changed to allow for more customization

The very core of Turtle Rock's Evolve revolves around the four versus one premise, and even though it's only been two months since we last saw it, the "one" side of things has since undergone some changes. The developers...more

A free-to-play model was considered for Evolve

Back when Turtle Rock Studios was working on Evolve for publisher THQ, the studio considered making the multiplayer title free to play, senior producer Mike Boccieri told Polygon. Of course, that path wasn't taken -- the game...more

Evolve impressions: How did we feel about the Kangaroos?

A couple of weeks ago, Hamza and I got a chance to screw around in Turtle Rock and 2K's Evolve. Hamza wrote up his thoughts on the game right here, and I got to interview one of the developers about the game. But how did Hamza and I really feel? Well, watch the dang video.more

Unreal Tournament footage: 'We have a game now'

I came in expecting little from this latest Unreal Tournament footage considering how not far along the game was in the last video, but this one is much more worthy of your time. Movement mechanics, levels, weapons, and team...more

Just how tactical is Rainbow Six: Siege?

Rainbow Six: Siege has some single-player component, but the E3 reveal was multiplayer-focused, and that's probably going to be the best bit of it.  Unfortunately, the carefully manicured, staged banter of the...more

Heads up: Payday will be free on Steam in October

It feels silly to tell you about a game that's going to be free months from now, but maybe, just this once, it'll prevent someone from buying said game right before the promotion begins. With that in mind, Payday: The Heist w...more
