GameTrailers finally brings us our first look at Dead Space's storyline. We see that the monsters that you'll be fighting in the game were once people, and that this game continues to look better with every new detail released. The trailer above doesn't reveal a whole lot; but lucky for us, GameTrailers has more to share. On the latest episode of GameTrailers TV, Geoff Keighley interviewed key members of the Dead Space development team, and they revealed lots of new information on the game.
One of the more interesting facts taken from the interview is that the monsters won't simply be taken out with just a couple of shots. All of the monsters can have their individual limbs shot off, adding an extra challenge to the combat-- and it looks like losing a few limbs won't stop these bad boys. Even shooting their heads off won't be enough in most cases. We also get to see some of the new gameplay elements such as the ability to slow down monsters in a small time warp, and the gravity puzzle elements.
Be sure to watch the very end of the interview as we get to see one of the aliens called a Brute bite the main character's head off and then rip his body in half! Groovy.
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Actually, weird thing: I just woke up from some dream 5 mins ago about pretty much the same thing. Except the aliens were more like zombies: slow and deliberate. In the end some mother who was the only other survivor ran with me to the last ship with her baby, and threw her baby against them in a last effort to get to the last spaceship's airlock. It didn't work. I went into the ship to power it up, but they just ripped open the airlock like it was paper. No human weapons or explosives worked against them... and I woke up. I guess they found the weapons to kill them in the sequel :(
As a man trapped in space, I am on the lookout constantly for these types of creatures! If I ever come across one i'll be sure to give it a blast from my 12 gauge!
Looks like it's really shaping up, hopefully EA won't ruin it.
After watching that gttv thing, does anyone else feel like almost knowing too much about the games story now? There's something annoying about that, but then again I refuse to watch movietrailers if I can help it because I feel they show too much, too. But some of those questions to the developers were really going to deep into the storyline for my taste, especially because it seems to be a game heavily focused on a strong narrative.
Thing is, I like to be informed well because obviously a video game is a much larger investment than a ticket to the movie-theater or a dvd rental and a bad surprise is more painful for my wallet.
Looks great, but please someone tell me I'm not the only person who thinks the protagonist's outfit and helmet look kind of ridiculous. Something's just...off...
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
besides that. i'm excited.

Alas there havent been that many evil aliens Ive encountered yet, only some strange underpantlings and a weird p3nis shaped entity that used his chin as a lazer!
I guess you will need to keep up to date on my space diary to find out if any viscious alien gets to taste my lead!

I'm... mildly interested
DeadSpace! Walk down metal corridors that look nothing like Aliens, or Doom 3, or Prey!
DeadSpace! Fight demon-alien-men that look nothing like anything you've ever seen before in Doom 3 or Condemned or Prey or ...
DeadSpace! A totally non-generic space survival horror game that in no way resembles Doom 3 or every other generic survival horror game/movie!
*sigh*
Seriously, anyone who is excited for this game must have never played a videogame before ... ever.
Did I hear Jenna Fischer or are my ears playing tricks on me?
I'm definitely looking forward to see how this turns out.
I watched the first trailer way back when it was first released, and it got a gigantic MEH from me.
but after watching this, I must say it's definitely on my list of things to at least try out.
I jsut hope it has no cliche plot twist, that'd suck.
