Remember that PS3/PC MMO The Agency that Sony Online Entertainment's been working on since man first learned to walk upright? It's been quietly in development for so long that the inevitable cancellation rumors have started to surface, rumors that SOE itself has declared "ridiculous," promising that The Agency will appear sometime next year ... maybe.
"I've been wrong like three times with that game," said SOE president John Smedley while talking about the game a release date. "And we're not going to release it until it's right. But there's this rumor going around that we're going to cancel it -- that's ridiculous.
"We're going full-bore towards it. We're simply keeping it under wraps more because we want to make it the best possible game we can. I'm an FPS player first and foremost, so we're going to get that game right, period."
It's been around ten months since Sony said anything about The Agency, so surely SOE can forgive fans for speculating as to the game's status and existence. Still, it was looking like a very unique project, so it's good to know that the game is still on track, right?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I don't really see how shooter MMOs can really work. MMOs tend to be at least a little bit laggy with so much information from so much characters nearby. Maybe it's because where I live downloading at 1.5 MB is top-notch connection.
He must own an X-Box 360 then. ZING!
Then again, it's been a long time since I've seen anything of it. I'm probably making all this up.
I seem to remember seeing something too but it looked like some lame demo footage. I doubt the game looks like that now.
Anyway the only MMOFPS for me was Huxley. Now that it's dead I'm uninterested. *sigh* Oh Huxley. How doth the youth die in their prime.
Believe.
