The Adventures of Shuggy to try again on Steam photo

Despite being a rather good game, The Adventures of Shuggy didn't perform very well on Xbox Live Arcade. Like other independent developers before it, Smudged Cat Games is trying again with a follow-up release on PC by way of Steam. Look past the silly name and consider giving it a chance.

For as many platformers as I seem to play, I'm surprisingly not tired of the genre yet, though fatigue does occur regularly. Shuggy was able to mix things up with an old-school design and varied gameplay hooks. It feels quite a bit different than anything else out there, which I can appreciate.

No word on a release date for this impending Steam version other than "soon," so hold tight.

Adventures of Shuggy hits PC via Steam, direct download

Though it's not going to appeal to all of you, I quite liked The Adventures of Shuggy. It sounds as if very few people played the puzzle platformer on Xbox Live Arcade, which makes me hopeful that the brand new PC version ca...more

Adventures of Shuggy dev talks development ups and downs

The Adventures of Shuggy, released to the wilds of Xbox Live Arcade this past summer, was fairly well received. Our own Jordan Devore praised it, specifically noting the sheer amount of content, variety, and co-op. Yet it did...more

Adventures of Shuggy dev tells of XBLA publishing woes

No one, I reckon, really wants to talk about David Johnston, the one-man dev team behind Smudged Cat Games' The Adventures of Shuggy. That's because his four years of development hell illustrate most of the systemic shor...more

Review: The Adventures of Shuggy

This is my favorite kind of review to write: one in which I get to talk about a game that's worthy of your attention, but seemingly few have picked up on. The Adventures of Shuggy has had minimal presence online, which is unf...more

Review: The Walking Dead Season 2: Amid the Ruins

The last episode of The Walking Dead was probably my favorite one yet -- and that's including all of Lee's tale from the first season. Clem has made the switch from tough to full-on badass depending on your choices, and ...more

Review: Dark Souls II: The Crown of the Sunken King

2014 has been very good to me, but Dark Souls II is one of my favorite games of the year. Many debates have raged on as to whether or not it's as exceptional as its predecessor (Demon's Souls is better than bot...more

Review: Squids Odyssey

Splatoon might be getting a lot of hype for Wii U squid battling, but it is not the first game featuring a squid squad to grace the console. Earlier this year, Squids made its jump from iOS to the Wii U with Squids Odyssey, a...more
