Damn, I can't believe this decade is almost over! We've come so far since Y2K. I've played so many games since then, and I'm sure you have, too.
They may say that we gamers care too much about sales, but I think of it as something like rooting for your favorite player in sports. You know his stats, like his RBIs or assists or whatever (I know sh*t about sports). Sales figures are sort of similar, I guess. And it's not so much caring as it curiousity. We want to see how well our games are doing.
Below the jump you'll find a list of the 50 best-selling games this decade, thanks to vgchartz. The best? Kill me now: Wii Sports. That doesn't count, and in my book, neither does Wii Play. So...Nintendogs? Yikes. The first non-Nintendo game on the list is Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, taking the number 6 spot with 17.78 million copies sold. Rounding out the list at number 50 is The Legend of Zelda: Homebrew Gateway Twilight Princess, with over 5 million copies sold.
There's a ton of other interesting data at vgchartz for you fellow number nuts, including console distribution and the frequency of game hits.

But Wii Sports? That's biased, WiiPlay is a hoax, and Nintendogs doesnt even deserve to be there.

There are lots of great games on there. Stop being a condescending jerk.
Did people forget that the former best selling game, Super Mario Bros, also came bundled with the NES ? In fact, it came with 1 other game, Duck Hunt.
But technically you're paying the extra for the game, thus the reason why the Wii is about "one game" cheaper in Japan.
And lets not forget, the Wii has been out for about 2 years, PS2 dominated the rest of the decade.
I mean, think about it, you really believe that a new Nintendo franchise wouldn't sell?
All you need is the commercial, "A new franchise by Nintendo", that's an automatic million buys.
But I guess they don't need to make the effort when the biggest turds are what sells. At least Mario Galaxy is there, that game should be number 1, its the best damn Wii game EVER and maybe even the greatest game of all time.
It doesn't matter. I bought the Wii for the console, not the Wii Sports. I would have bought it even without Wii Sports. Yes, it's nice that they included it as a way to introduce us to the mechanics, but I haven't touched Wii Sports in months. All of my Wii time goes to MadWorld, Okami, No More Heroes, Wii Fit, and lots of DLC. So, it's still ridiculous to count Wii Sports as a sale as though I would have unquestionably bought it separately.
I don't play Wii Sports anymore, but that doesn't mean part of the price that I paid for the Wii didn't go to that game.
its the same as stating that in some town all of the babies are being born with cancer and therefore you think cancer is a good thing.
As it is, I suggest looking up the next few best-selling games of 2000-2009 and making your own list based on your own criteria, if you are truly offended by this chart. I'm not offended enough to bother.
That and the wii sports can't be totally discounted as many people buying the wii wanted that game in particular.
