Fingers crossed for nintendos next console and it's online capabilities, they can't afford to fuck it up again.
Sure, it's hard to find some things, but it's not like it takes a long time.
A) Complain about one of our first GB VC games being one of the best games the GB had to offer.
B) Completely ignore the fact that the biggest problem with the eShop is that our purchases are STILL tied to systems rather than a universal account (god forbid our 3DS breaks or we need to upgrade to a new model in 2 years).
I'd be happy to take the 3 seconds to type "Mighty" into the search bar to bring up Mighty Flip Champs if it meant I actually OWNED the game and wasn't paying $5-8 for a rental.
Complain about the right thing next time.
Besides not storing card information, I don't see what is worth getting so angry about..... I quite like it personally.
Though, not having the retail point cards available at launch is pretty silly.
So Nintendo has absolutely no f'ing clue, that's for sure. And what's worse, they are able to code the damn thing. So really, the only thing they needed was to hire one competent person to lead this project. They have the money, they just don't give a fuck.
"It doesn't matter what we do, you're going to buy our shit regardless"
Except that Sony fans were smart enough to call out Sony's BS.
Nintendo fans, on the other hand, will gladly take anything that Nintendo screws them with because they'll still get their precious Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon.
Nintendo needs to be taught a lesson like Sony was. Until that happens, they won't get their shit together.
£3 is well worth it, it's several times better than anything installed on my iphone right now.
For £6 I can save my cash for some big name games on Steam instead.
Even fanboys are like, yeah Nintendo is pretty shit at online.
The thing is, I really don't think they know that. Nintendo is a company run by artists and game developers, not OS or hardware designers. That's where their priorities are -- the games. And that's exactly why you'll end up putting up with the eShop, because you want those games.
That's great for the hardcore gamer, but your average iPhone gamer, who just wants to browse an online store while waiting at the bus, isn't likely to put up with all of the barriers inherent to the current 3DS eShop.
Otherwise, good post - I'm sharing similar frustrations as a 3DS owner, but I already expected this from Nintendo.
A good rule of thumb is:
Q: Do you have to access it, play it, view it, or in any way shape or form utilize an online connection when Nintendo is involved in any way?
A: It blows.
I sincerely want to know who at Nintendo planned this console's first year. It's been naught but a chain of fuck-ups that doesn't look like it'll be resorted soon. Sure, they showed us a few exciting things at E3 for it, but each one was followed by a shrug on the matter of release dates, and games is what this thing desperately needs, especially outside Japan and America.
Meanwhile, Sony's been prancing about, shoving everyone's faces lovingly into their Vita, flaunting its power and gently bumping its dual analogue sticks against chins while gushing about the actually-pretty-substantial launch lineup for the thing.
Get it together, Nintendo, you're supposed to be the insurmountable lords of the handheld market.
You seem to be the exception, then. Nick has none in his area and they're not online that I've seen.
The thing about not saving the credit card information may be annoying, but it's still perfectly reasonable. I would think with all the recent hackings, people would come to appreciate Nintendo's Better Safe Than Sorry policy.
Nintendo needs to beef up its online network. Luckily, the 3DS allows for updates, so if by some small chance they realize some of their stupidity, they can always fix it. Nintendo games are pretty unreliable when it comes to playing online as well.
The last Nintendo game with playable online capabilities for me was MarioKart Wii. Brawl would have been 10000x better if it didn't have that god awful lag.

I do agree with you on the point of having different releases for different regions, though. Japan got two NES classics, 6 Game Boy games, as well as two original 3DSware games. Fuck not being able to play Xevious in 3D just because I don't live in Japan, it wouldn't take any effort to localize it.
That, or they're oblivious to the massive audience of people over the age of 9 who are still in love with Nintendo. I gave up when I bought Gunstar Heroes on VC. They can't be bothered to institute some basic upgrades like save menus and leaderboards, and a Dpad that doesn't feel like a glued-on Perfection gamepiece.
Miyamoto is basically a really old kid and he looks like he's happy with what they're doing. It's not going to change. The 3DS shop will look like that forever.
PSN store has the same problem, if less pronounced, but at least the content is modern and mostly worth buying.
And yet even with that I'll end up buying all the awesome games that get released on the eShop, because I'm a gullible fool.
Thank you. This is why i read this blog daily. articles like this are not only immensely entertaining, but also directly correlate to the subject being discussed.
I learn, i laugh, and occasionally piss myself.
On topic: You are surprised by a fully unrealized and half-assed download system from NINTENDO? REALLY? What an idiot.
The only real hardware innovation they have done was with the DS, and the Wii, and as we all know, the wii probably did more harm than good with a decade of shovelware still coming. All this goes to support my stance that nintendo should drop out of the console race. They could still release innovative games and peripherals, and handhelds, but they seem like horrible console makers.
That, and their pricing really is about 2 dollars more than it should be, considering their competition. They are going back to the damn trickle method again, which basically killed Wii VC for me, because eventually I stopped checking. There really needed to be more games available when it opened.
And drop the damn charade. There is no technical reason we shouldn't be able to play Virtual Console games on the from our accounts on the Wii, on the 3DS. It's more than stout enough technically to manage them, they have our account info with Club Nintendo, and has the control inputs to handle everything pretty cleanly except maybe the N64. There isn't one reason I shouldn't be able to play SNES, NES, Genesis, NeoGeo, etc, games on my 3DS, other than Nintendo doesn't give a shit.
Allow me to respond in the following manner.

Sorry, but hardcore gamers would hate such a poorly designed UI, too. There's a big difference between 'hardcore' and 'I'm you're bitch.' Obviously if you're hardcore Nintendo than you're forced into the latter to a degree because it would be difficult to find anything similar to Nintendo elsewhere, but even then...
