That was fast: DSi firmware 1.4J already cracked photo

Just last week we reported on Nintendo's new Japanese firmware update, which managed to sneak in some flash cart blockery along with Facebook functionality. Several Destructoid readers shrugged off the block, stating with confidence that it would be cracked in no time.

They were right. Today, Kotaku has a video that clearly shows that DSi firmware 1.4J has been defeated. An R4 is plugged in and a game is booted in this video where the maker goes out of his way to show that it really works. And then the guy slams his DSi shut, for some odd reason.

Of course, this isn't to say that the other flash carts work, but if they don't, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they do. And speaking of a matter of time, be on the lookout for firmware 1.5, so we can do this all over again.

Nothing can stand in the way of a pirate. Nothing at all.
(Except for maybe a lawsuit and several years in jail)

Can't say I didn't see this coming. I'm sure my dumbass pirate friend will go on to say how these companies deserve it for "ripping us off." You know, when they sell you games and expect you to pay for them? How ridiculous.

Nintendo apparently didnt learn from Sony's lessons.

Pirates will crack your anti-piracy software faster than you can blink.

Yeah, you figured they'd learn from Sony, but i guess what should we expect? They have to try afterall.

Saying that you are making anything anti-piracy is pretty much just issuing a challenge for all the pirates to stop eating or sleeping and spend all their time working on a way to crack it.

When will the Arms Race between publishers and pirates end?!

Seriously though, funny stuff, let's see what Nintendo does.

They'd be better off taking the defeat and gracefully moving on.

When they put in High-profile Anti-Piracy measures like this, it just makes it more embarrassing when it's cracked in no time.

Just because this is the first notable video of it being cracked doesn't mean it hasn't been cracked for days.

I can't wait for the firmware that, when cracked, causes your DS to explode.

You know how you stop piracy? Killing or seriously injuring pirates.

Hilarious. Remember when SE whined about CTDS's anti-piracy features getting cracked, and blaming the game's poor sales on that? I think developers really need to learn they can't stop the pirates by saying no to them, they have to coax them into buying the game. At least Valve got it right (yesterday's article).

Oh boy! I was hoping I'd live to see another handheld go through that whole song-and-dance that the PSP firmware's infamous for--they've even remembered not to add anything useful to the updates!
