I distinctly remember back in the PS1 era, my best friend and I wouldn't touch Mad Catz with a ten foot pole. They used low strength adhesive on their d-pads, so after a few months of use, they'd literally fall off the controller. One time we bought 10 Mad Catz controllers at a yard sale for 10 cents, and would use them as "wall throwing controllers" when we played retro games. Good times.
Now, they're getting exclusive rights to make music game peripherals, and fight sticks. I just don't get how this company turned around, haha.

Good for them and all, I mean it's nice to see a company in the gaming industry doing this well.... but I still will never trust their products.
It goes way back to the days of N64 adn even gamecube. I have owned (usually through trades or other deals) 7 madcatz accessories in total. Every single one of them was defective out of the box, felt like a fisher price toy, or went defunct within the first month of purchase. I even had a mad catz PS2 controller EXTENSION cable die on me. It'll always be first party for me. my original NES controller from 1990 is still going strong :)

They should thank Street Fighter 4 for this. I believe it was from that moment that they stopped having the reputation of crappy peripherals.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say a large chunk of that was rb stuff, followed by those joystick pads for fighting games
Not surprising when this generation of consoles controllers cost as much as a game. It's bound to drive people to buy cheaper alternatives.
I'd put the credit for their rise to Rock Band, their stuff for that got them a much improved reputation and no doubt that helped once it came time to do the SF4 stuff.
Its got to be mostly because of the Fight sticks. Those things sell like crazy. I never see them in stores, and when I do, its usually only like one at a time.
But, I think the main idea of this story is, if you take the time, and actually put some quality effort into your product, you will make money.

I'd like to know how they made any money since you still cant buy any of their fucking rockband peripherals in canada. Jesus christ its 4 months after release and I'm still not playing pro mode because you can't even buy a Mustang in western Canada, and my Roland TD-3 kit has to be plugged in via a guitar hero drum set (meaning no pro mode) because you cant buy the MIDI adapter. Fuck mad Catz right in their goddamn cat ass
the TE sticks were largely credited as being good as they don't use Madcatz parts in them. the SE sticks on the other hand, are not the best.

i missed them when they were still making gameshark, i wonder why they'd stop? i want a gameshark on at least on my wii,psp and ds. at least make a option to let you read any region games :P
Well when you sell $150 guitar controllers that they couldn't even keep on the shelves, it's bound to happen.
Good for them. I bought one of their Street Fighter IV fightpads, and it's a very respectable controller. Any time I really need a good dpad for a 360 game, I always use it instead of the regular controller.

Oh look, shitty hard ware sells more if their pretty the biggets accessory manufacturer in the market. Other manufacturers like Nyko aren't big enough to pedal their products unlinke Mad Catz who sells shitty cheap shit for $20 to continue their operation.
Honestly I'm sorry but they make pretty shitty product. Not all of them, but a lot of them. The only one I liked was that mini gamecube controller. It was like a micro controller. Even that broke after a while. Cord just got a shortage. No sign of damage. Last 3rd party controller I bought.
Maybe they started making actual gaming hardware instead of making mostly empty controllers with a note inside that says "Sucker."
