Thanks, Xbox splash page: Wolfenstein 3D Arcade is coming photo

Consider Wolfenstein 3D confirmed for Xbox LIVE Arcade. Microsoft recently tossed up a splash page for the game, which leaves little doubt that the oft-speculated-upon (thanks, ESRB!) property is Arcade-bound.

Unfortunately, we still don’t know much about Wolfenstein 3D despite the cute little splash page (it’s a bit on the blank side). However, there is a little fact nugget to be found: Nerve Software is handling the port. Nerve’s previous Arcade work was with the re-release of DOOM. Color us excited.

Our guess is that we won’t hear much more about Wolfenstein 3D until the marketing push for Raven’s Wolfenstein ramps up. Either way, we’re in for a lot of Nazi crushing action in the near future. (Color me excited.)

Not that I advocate piracy, but It can be found for free in plenty of Abandonware sites.

Compared to the other classic FPS games on XBLA, I doubt Wolfenstein 3D has aged very well.

Where the hell is Doom 2 you cockaholes? Also isn't Wolf 3d public domain?

Are you willing to pay 5 to 10 bucks for this game? Yes it's a classic, but is it still fun after all these years that it warrants another go?

@ Chronic Logic

Sure I'd pay for it again, it's still pretty fun to dink around with. I just hope they give you the option to turn on or off the updated graphics.. Not a fan of the "newer" graphics.

ok I just came. Granted I have the first episode on my mom's old IBM computer and I had it on my laptop a year ago, I came.

this game holds so many memories in my younger days....I'd stay up late playing and looking for hidden areas.

I'm gonna die when this costs more than Doom.

My advice is for those that have one, get Wolfenstein 3D on your iPhone or iPod Touch. It's more of a cool, unique experience there. It's only $4.99 there, too. I'd bet this could be a ten dollar MSpoint deal sometime down the road.

What I'd LOVE to see on XBLA would be Heretic or Hexen.

WHERE THE FUCK IS DOOM II?!

I'd love to get it for the 360, but I'm scared it's just going to be a vanilla port of the game with leaderboards and achievements. And I could honestly care less about either one of those things. I doubt they're going to go through all the trouble of adding a multiplayer option (Wolf 3D deathmatch would be fuckin' weird hehe.

And Wolf3D isn't public domain. They might've released the source for it at one point or another, but they if they did it's probably like the other source releases and just the engine itself. Not the levels.

Well, that's assuming they released the source AT ALL of course. :)

Im gonna be so irritated when [i]for some reason?[i] this doesnt sell very well at 1200 points, so they decide not to bother with Doom 2.. -_-

@Dhalamar: You can get the source from id software's website. All their 3d games up to and including Quake 3 have had their engine's source code released.

I'll get it if it's $5, otherwise I'll just whip out my 5 1/4 disk and play it on pc.

as a matter of fact it really should be FREE, but of course Microsoft likes money too much for that to happen ;)

If it has achievements I won't mind spending money again on this game to play it again.

Wolfenstein 3D is a game that makes me feel the passage of time so readily. I can remember playing a shareware floppy with my dad when it first emerged. Good times. :)

I'd pay $20 if it came with Spear of Destiny and the lost episodes.

@Wookiee

It's not abandonware. id keeps cranking it out every generation and you can get it through Steam.

Wolfenstein 3D is one of my favorite games from my childhood. I've purchased it on every system and phone ever made, and will proudly continue to do so. Considering the fact that you can get it for like $5 anywhere, even the iPhone, it needs to be wicked cheap.

I got Half-Life on Steam for $1 (69p after VAT) so W3D should be half that, but knowing Microsoft, it'll be 800 points.

Color me apathetic. I know this was essentially the father of the modern FPS, but I couldn't go back and play it now.
