So, to be honest -- when I heard there was a new Edgeworth game, I was kind of annoyed. I liked the first Edgeworth, but I've been waiting for the next Apollo Justice game forever.
This trailer has changed my mind.
In addition to having a fantastic soundtrack, it also looks like we're getting some more information on Shelly de Killer. Even though he was in the lamest (relatively speaking) of the Phoenix Wright games, I find him one of the most interesting villains of the series. With Shelly, Little Thief (which I also thought was a fantastic addition to the series), and the chess metaphor they have going through the entire trailer, I'm pumped.
Jonathan Ross is an Associate Editor in Los Angeles who is obsessed with capybaras. Like, seriously, obsessed. If he's not playing Team Fortress 2 or getting into arguments about why PC gaming is superior, he's either off having a fancy dinner with lots of expensive wine, or sitting on the Destructoid IRC complaining that's he's not off having a fancy dinner.
Likes: Chrono Trigger, Street Fighter, Steam, everything Blizzard and Valve have ever made, playing Angry Birds on the toilet.
Meet the rest of the team
Honestly, I agreed through the first half of the game.
By the end of it though, he has so much potential, storywise. His sister, his mom, his ability -- there's a lot of really cool stuff they can do for him. And the most important thing is that the Apollo Justice games aren't actually about Apollo -- it's still entirely Phoenix's story.
The thing about Apollo is that he ended up taking a backseat to Wright in his own game, so he didn't get the chance to shine and develop like the characters did in the original trilogy. It would be so disappointing to leave his story as it was in that game, he has a lot of potential to be a solid character if they actually bother to do so.
For some reason, I'm not very pumped after seeing this trailer. I should be. WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME?!?!?! I think it might be because I get the feeling that the game won't do too much to innovate (same sprites from what I can see). I don't know, it just seems like the Ace Attorney series is more about telling a story than making great gameplay which I understand. Little Thief, for example, was more of a plot element than something you could whip out at anytime and use.
Would also like to be seeing more of Phoenix. That... person that was in Apollo Justice ain't the Phoenix I know. Get back in the courtroom, man! Great to see Capcom still paying making Ace Attorney though, they sure are on a roll! Maybe this'll be known as the Capcom Age in gaming.
Yessssssssssss. I agree that Apollo Justice 2 would be nice, but the last Edgeworth game was sweet, and so long as I get to hammer witnesses into telling the truth I'll be happy no matter who the main character is.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Still waiting for another Court game though.
Not so much a lousy character as so much a court based game.
Also Apollo was fine. He needed more time to develop his character.

Didn't see that coming
