Here's the trailer Capcom used to reveal the upcoming Kinect-enabled Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor. That's right, the game utilizes zero buttons, which is about 40 fewer than the original game that shipped with a massive controller you needed an actual pilots license to use.

Heavy Armor is being developed in conjunction with Armored Core studio, From Software. Do you think it can work without the massive controller gimmick?

I guess if you want to get technical and cynical at the same time you can say that you're still spending 150 extra bucks on a gimmicky controller to play this game.

I can't say it's not a little refreshing to see something that's potentially giving us a unique experience that might only be possible on Kinect. This is more along the lines of what Microsoft should be doing with the Kinect. Not the gritty "mature" style, but just stepping away from the Wii party game rip-offs a little bit.

I think it has a chance of actually selling a few copies this time. The hulk controller gave you such cool tactile feedback though, so I don't know how flailing your arms about will compare.

That could actually be pretty bad ass if it worked well. I'm still pretty iffy about not holding anything physical in my hands. I would rather have my hands on a real steering wheel than an air steering wheel for example (Forza I'm looking at you), but if the visual feedback was good enough that it didn't feel like you were just stabbing around blindly it could maybe be cool.

@ Jecurpac;

I agree with that wholeheartedly.

Like I said before, I reckon this game would need a combination of 360 controller and Kinect to be able to control the mech confidently, imo.

So I'm not the only one who saw D-Day but with robots? Man I hope not...

Anyway, the whole thing sounds unique, and it could be handled well. I don't know if it'd be enough to make me actually go out and get Kinect, but we'll see.

I don't see how a mech game can be done with Motion controls without buttons. This game will benefit greatly with the Move.

Yet again I see another reason that kinect needs a peripheral with some DAMN BUTTONS!!!!

So, they're saying that when I stomp around the living room making missile shooting sounds, I can actually be PLAYING A GAME now?

Man, the original controller really wasn't that bad. 9 of the buttons/switches were solely for booting up the robot, and then it was no more complicated from playing any other twin stick game. Couple buttons for weapon switching, the sticks for movement aiming and firing, and the pedals were all you really needed.

But will it still delete your save game if you don't eject in time? And what gesture will you have to do to eject? Or move forward? Or, you know, anything?
Gameplay footage needed.

Yeah that kind of defeats the purpose. They had 20 of the original game setup at PAX... it was sort of amazing.

Haha @mechman.

I would prefer a new battalion controller. This announcement is kinda bittersweet. I've wanted this sequel forever, but it was because I wanted a new battalion controller too.

For some reason a steel battalion game with the controller feels like... A racing game without a controller.

Skippable :(

Maybe it'll be control through some kind of on screen hud like Minority Report or Iron Man.

If they pull this off (possibly through some on-screen holographic display deal like everyone in Mass Effect uses, then it could very well convert everyone who was on the fence about the whole concept of controllerless gamies.

Aww I was really hoping for a next gen game to give me an excuse to pull out that monster of a controller. All they'd have to do is ship it with an xbox-to-usb converter and we'd be all set! But then they'd be limiting their market to geeks like me who actually bought the originally, a rather small market I'd imagine.
