At Sony's pre-TGS press conference today, a new reader and store for manga and comics for the PlayStation Vita was unveiled.
SCEJ president Hiroshi Kawano showed off reading app Reader, which looked colorful and absolutely beautiful with the Vita's OLED screen. Popular manga One Piece and Fate/stay Night were used as examples. We saw that pages turn with a swipe, though the L and R buttons can be used for the same function. Tapping one of the face buttons lets the reader jump from cell to cell easily.
One example showed how the Vita can be turned to landscape me to read the manga page by page. In this mode, the L button can be used to turn the page.
As for the reader's library, an Apple-like swipe-able bookshelf was shown.
The Reader Store will open this October in Japan, kicking off with more than 3,000 manga to be read.
