I take it you've never fought that boss in Sonic 3 then? The strategy for beating him is exactly the same: jump into him head-on, without touching the spikes on his head or going underneath him. There is already a video online of someone beating the boss you are talking about in a single minute.

I couldn't agree with you more, I'm really sick of seeing people complain about Sonic games because they aren't exactly the same as the original. That's like complaining that Mario games don't have the same physics that the original game did. If you want to complain about Were-hog Sonic, that's legitimate, but I see people bitching about how classic Sonic doesn't have the EXACT controls in Generations.
I am worried about you.

And the video footage is on the official Japanese website; scroll down to where you can see the english word "movie" and click the image underneath it. Blink and you'll miss it, but those crosshairs are real.

Also, the boss fight isn't stupid. That boss and that pattern of attack has existed for 15 years now. Most people figured out how to beat him when they were five and six years old. You should be able to do the same now.
People aren't usually mad at the mere fact that Sonic has changed, it is that the recent games have sucked. Or so I hear, the last "new" Sonic game I played was Sonic 06.
