I think we can all agree that we're pretty pumped for whatever the hell Project Dark (a working title) is going to be. And if the trailer above is any indication then it's going to look lot like Demon's Souls. If you're upset about this, then you're in the minority.
Of course we know next to nothing about the gameplay, but you can see some epic bosses already in the trailer above and some third-person action. We'll have to wait for more details to arise before we can truly confirm how much Project Dark has to do with Demon's Souls, but even if it's drastically different gameplay wise I think we should all be getting excited for this one.

Man, i hope it's a sequel. I really hope it's a sequel. The tiny bit of action that is in the trailer looks very familiar. O man O man O man. I'm pumped
Holly Crap this is Awesome, i loed DS and im on my second run, plus the fact that Atlus will down the DS US servers is a really good chance of me starting everything all over again in Project Dark
epic-koryuken: Yeah, Demon's Souls's difficulty is greatly exaggerated. Probably because so many wimps died a bunch in the first few hours and gave up before they got the hang of things and the game gets significantly easier.
@ hpv and epic
To beat Demon Soul's you have got to be a pretty decent gamer. I'm far from being an expert, but I'm an everyday gamer, I've got a few good platinum trophies under my belt, but that game BEAT ME!!!!
It beat me so bad I just had to stop playing. Otherwise it would have become an addiction. Even though the game was kicking my ass, it was such a damn good game that I just kept saying to myself "one more try, just one more try." I was losing countless hours of sleep. It was madness I says!!!
I'm still looking forward to seeing what this is all about though.
-level up to carry the tower shield
-use soul arrow or fire magic from a distance on everything - level up magic also
-use walkthroughs on youtube to help you when you are really stuck
thats how i did it and i gave up about 5 times and nearly sold the game in anger.
I cannot wait for this and it's good to see my 360-only brethren getting some love. I even hope it comes with a port of the original. It's called 'Project Black' because Sony owns the name Demon's Souls (and why wouldn't they want to). So, until it's properly titled, I will be following this game very very closely. I'm hoping for a lot more of everything and a streamlined leveling system that doesn't get grindy at higher levels, more comprehensive weapon, shield and, hopefully, armor upgrades this time around.
The original is all about stat management (especially sub 120 soul level). I remember laughing when reviewers didn't finish their playthroughs, but this is a surprisingly easy game with an uncommonly high learning curve; so worth it.
It's not that this one needs to be harder, it would just be cool if the levels had some randomness to the layout. Once you memorized everything in the original, it was pretty easy.
Also multiple races this time? Play as a zombie? AND HOLY SHIT THAT BOSS. This is going to be so good.
Well, this looks like Demon Souls 2, but without naming it such as Sony owns the IP. I still stand to my view that the 360 audience is not the correct one for the game. I'm more worried that the intricacies and the quality of the original game would be toned down to cater to the more trigger happy 360 audience
I dont want a sequel. Demons souls is one of those games which is better standalone.
I think this should be a whole new game with a whole new story, just built on the same engine. Though that forest setting looks completely identical to some unused concept art for DS.
Either, Im gonna play the fuck out of it! Giant teeth monster looked amazing!
@romo I actually agree with you. Plus demons soul wasn't huge so its online part will be dead because the fanbase is split and there wasn't alot of people to begin with. This is the only time I'm sad an exclusive is going multiplatform.
@epic-koryuken
Tbh, it'd be fucking brilliant if this game was brought to pc! Heck, in my opinion Demon's Souls and this sequel should get as much exposure to anyone who considers themselves a gamer as possible, and everyone should play it at least once.
Also, Wii does rhyme with Sony, so does Steam (pronounced with a silent M, of course!) ;)
Nothing against dark and edgy, but almost every game is dark and edgy. How about something bright and cheery for my PS3?
Incidently, the PS3 has 80 gb output per second, and can handle 200 gb per second. I'm curious what kind of gaming rig your using that can surpass that, and what kind of games you play that burn more data than 200 gb per second. As far as I'm aware, the PS3 is still the cheapest source of cell processors, which is why I'm curious about where gaming rigs are today, and what they are used to pley.
@Hcapt: King's Field in all of it's spiritual incarnations has ALWAYS been dark and gritty. This is not the place to complain about how everyone thinks grinding dirt into your eyes makes for great atmosphere, even if I completely agree with you.
@epic-koryuken
I don't post here alot but Atlus did not make Demon's souls. They are the publisher for the US release. The game was developed by From Software and Sony Japan, so all rights belong to Sony. Sony give publishing rights to Atlus for the US release because of low sales in Japan. This game will never be called Demon's Souls 2 be it cannot legally be called so.
@epic-koryuken: Sony Does own the Demon's souls IP, they just just refused to publish it in the states.
But, I did hear an interesting Rumor, Sony wanted From Software to make the game more accessible to all types of Gamers. From Software said Fuck You ( well in my mind they said fuck you) and went multiplatform.
I'm just bummed Atlus isn't involved, they did a great
jobreleasingDemon's souls. And it was a big hit for them.
@epic
Look, i didn't mean to make you madder than usual, to that i apologise. I'm only voicing my concerns about the spiritual successor to Demon Souls. Which is a great game, only on the Playstation 3. But with Project Dark being Multiplatform and we're just having concerns if the game will be dumbed down to suit a wider audience. That's all.
I am a gamer, epic, you don't need to insult anyone who seems to have a differing opinion than you, haha. Well,. i'll try to make my way to the forums. Let's all enjoy having to share opinions on our favorite past time. :)
I wouldn't say Atlus couldn't be involved in this... I don't think they've announced anything about a publisher other than From is the developer. While From does often publish their own games in Japan , as far as I recall they don't have a US publishing branch. Their various properties have been published by Agetec, Activision, Ubisoft, Sega, and recently Atlus over here...
@Wedge: Namco-Bandai is publishing the game in the states. So Atlus won't/cant be involved.
Which is a shame, Sony didn't believe the game was worth publishing in the states. Atlus took the reigns and did a fantastic job, had one of if not their bggest hit.
"its ds2" "no its not blabla" what else...kids stfu and be happy that they release this game multiplatform.I hope they set up multicrossplatform server, so a lot of ppl can play together. I dont care if they fucked up Sony...i always prefer games from Indie devs. I could imagine that they name the game Kings Field V.
@sofik MS doesn't host servers for all MS games. It's the same setup for Sony. Most games are p2p and some have dedicated.
I'm surprised all the people I'm this thread have let me know more about this game than any news I've read.
I didn't know Sony owned the IP and if that's the case, I wouldn't get my hopes up for a 360 release. This game is certainly a demons souls sequel and I'm not sure they'll get away with a multiplatform. It hasn't even been confirmed for 360 yet.
@epic this game is ps3 exclusive In japan meaning ps3 is lead development platform meaning 360 gets the port meaning ps3 is the better choice for this game. This game will not sell well in 360 I'm not trying to troll but previous rpgs have proven this. Americans just like fps and you know there is always the minority who don't but numbers prove americans love to shoot people in video games. To me and maybe I'm the only one on this site who thinks so ruined this gaming generation I'm not blaming the 360 for this but it does have its part to play.
And epic you pkay modnation? Have you been to the japanese modspots? The north american modspots are disasters! All people cussing at one an other, people trying to put others down cuz their mods aren't as good as theirs, oh and I had someone try to convince me that I'm gay because I make anime mods. You go to the japanese server and everyone there is so peaceful, no bashing no hate and a lot of appreciation for others creations.
If its going to be on 360 too, that a good thing for all, especially From Software. This time they'll print enough copies for each console, with no likelyhood of a shortage like last time. I'm sure From will welcome the profit they'll get from going multi too. Any japanese developer worth their salt would be insane to turn down money from Sony and MS.
@Romo
No chance of the game being dumbed down. Put those fears aside, as 360 is home to tough games if you want them (like Ninja Gaiden, originally a Xbox/Xbox 360 game). Don't judge a 360 book by its cover, just because certain players like certain genre of 360 games. I don't exepct Bioware to dumb down Mass Effect 2 for PS3 either, and I while I'm a 360 owner, I welcome more gamers to check out its awesomeness too, especially japanese ones.
So yeah, I'll look forward to picking this up in 2011. I'm sure Atlus would like another chance at PD, but that kinda depends on if they have the infrastructure to handle a bigger, wider release, than last time.
looks like demons souls 2. you know what would be awesome? to play this game online, between ps3s and 360s. that way a lot more people would be killing each other. but it cant be done. fuck you sony and microsoft!!!!

Now if I could just get Valkyria Chronicles I'd be set.
Guess wut...
Valkyria Chronicles started out as a 360 exclusive.
Sega be trollan on you.
I will stick by it until they say otherwise.
That's likely true and The 360 People will get to bask in its perverse, bloodstained glory. It might even be soulcrushing this time around.
Hopefully the game plays similarly.
More streamlined MP and this game will be perfect!

@Hcapt: Ni no Kuni should cover that for you :D
Rarely do we get surprised the same way that Demon's Souls surprised us all.
Nope, it's Demon's Souls 2 in pretty much everything but the name.
