TGS: New Devil May Cry starring a younger Dante revealed photo

[Update: Some of DmC's story has been revealed. The new game will "depict a duplicitous world where nothing is ever as it seems and the line between good and evil is constantly blurred. Spurred into action by the promises of a trusted relation, Dante bursts into this world intent on revenge at any cost. DmC will retain the series’ signature mix of sword and gunplay but add additional weapons, all new powers and a revitalised gameplay system as players encounter the game’s devilish mix of enemies and navigate the rich, interactive environment."]

Capcom's third new game reveal at Tokyo Game Show today was a brand new Devil May Cry game! Simply called DmC, the Ninja Theory developed title stars a younger, more rebellious Dante. His hair is also black now. This is going to be a reboot of the series as producer Alex Jones described his studio's vision of the new game.

No release date or platform was given but we do know it will be out for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We also have some new screens and boy does the new Dante model look ugly. We'll have more info for you about DmC as it becomes available. What do you all think of Dante's new look?

Something seems off I think it's the lack of white hair!

Wow, I'm still surprised to see that Ninja Theory are on this, good to see that they're being given such an opportunity.

New Dante is fail.

I don't like this at all. I want my classic white-haired Dante spitting sarcastic one-liners while wailing on guitars that shoot bats just because he can.
I don't want some angsty black-haired douche.

Actually, after checking out the pictures, he shouldn't be called Dante. The lack of white hair is bad enough, but he looks so drastically different (and in such a bad way) that he should be renamed. A lot of people will find it hard to see it as a reboot, even though it's a different developer and look, so Ninja Theory should be trying to please the series fans a bit more IMO.

Damn, I was a fan of DMC I would be pissed right now. That guy looks absolutely nothing like Dante.

But then again, it's going to be a reboot... so I guess they can do whatever they want...

Fuck you Ninja Theory... Devil May Cry is NOT Twilight!!!!

But I'm glad this is not Devil May Cry 5. The fact that it's just "DMC" means it can fail however hard it wants and it won't ruin the real DMC series. Like Silent Hill: Homecoming.

Looks fine, although I think DMC has done enough of the bullshit prequel-confusing-timeline games already in its short lifespan. I'm not a fan of the black hair, unless somehow they work in it changing color or something.

As much as 4 wasn't the "optimal" DMC game, I would have preferred seeing a better-made Nero & Dante game with more divergent playstyles a second time around.

I'll reserve final judgment for when we find out if he still has terrible one-liners and acts like the "real" Dante. I'm not sure why everyone assumes that just because he has black hair that he'll be angsty; sure there might be a little angst subtext with him being a teen now, but that doesn't preclude the possibility we may still get ridiculous action sequences, weapons, and over the top one-liners.

@Elzam

He was a teenager in DMC3.
That's no excuse. They've just pussied out and made a game that's going to sell to teenage girls instead of people who want more DMC.

As ChainThrow says, Western Developers don't and probably can't make a DMC style game. They make God of War style, which is purely simplistic.

The problem for those games is none of them are as good as GoW.

Oh no, he doesn't have white hair! Damn, are people really whining over that?

I like it. He looks like he has a serious attitude problem, which I think is the vibe they're going for with this. The old "80's Power Ballad" look really didn't do much to inspire any feelings of bad-assery. I'm sure at one time that thinking, "wow, he looks like a member of Poison!", was a positive, but now not so much.

Terrible, this Dante just looks terrible. He doesn't even look like Dante, I demand them to change his design or I won't be buying this game. I just can't stand looking at him and calling such an ugly frankenstein creature 'Dante' makes me wanna hurl.

What have you done Capcom?

On one hand, the gameplay could be the best in the DMC series and everything else could be flat out terrible.

It's not just the hair. It's the entire character.
You know how when they showed the new Cole in inFamous 2 and people flipped out?

Yeah. New Dante looks even less like old Dante then new Cole looked like old Cole, and that's a problem for fans. You just cant look at someone who doesn't look anything like the character you love and call them by that name. It just makes you feel...Dirty.

Uh oh..... I'd like to withdraw my comment from the earlier article regarding this announcement. This is looking like a disaster.

DMC didn't need a reboot, or a new art style. The action was fine the game just needed better writing and cut scenes.

What have they done??????

Well I like the black hair. The grey always seemed kinda gay. However, I'm not so sure about his new look... He has that pencil neck nerd look to him that the weak bad guy from RE5 had. I think his bangs are too long of the rest is too short. maybe it'll look different in action.

What the fuck is this crap? That's exactly what I was fearing when they announced that it will have a more 'Western' touch... I mean, I'm fine with games like this and if the gameplay is good, I'll probably enjoy it, but why call it a Devil May Cry game when it has NOTHING in common with the franchise? New characters, new story, new style, new gameplay... shame. Yes, DMC4 was flawed, but it wasn't that bad, and they could easily have built on this foundation instead of throwing everything out the window.

Reboot =/= Cash-in.
Bayonetta is a reboot. Made by the guy who made DMC in the first place, plays like DMC but with the original developers new additions.

The developers are a tell tale sign it's not going to play like DMC, more like a team that doesn't make DMC.

It's more than just the hair, They're throwing away one of the PS2's most loved characters, 4 games of story, to cash in on the Twilight train.

This isn't like inFamous which is a one game so far franchise with a character who had no personality anyway.

We all know that the japanese are trying to appeal to the west audience by trying new things a remaking great old games. BUT... Devil May Cry already sold well, the character has charisma as is. Why the fuck ruin that? Although I read that on a different site that this game will have the first 3 games story in it and that dante will change along the time to have white hair when his powers awaken and other cosmetic changes, giving it a slight rpg feeling.

'Reboot' or not, it's not the end of the world and cashing in isn't exactly new when it comes to Capcom.

Either way, it's pretty sad people tend to jump to conclusions about the game just because of the way he looks. I'm reading people on other sites saying 'DMC is Dead' etc. People overreact too much when it comes to announcements when they know very little or before they even give it a chance.

But in all seriousness ever since the first it's always seemed like a difficult formula to work with. Nobody can seem to find a sweet spot for whatever the reasons may be. I've played all the DMCs and each an every time there's some huge glaring clawing that absolutely breaks everything.

This franchise needs to die already. I don't see why on earth it still exist in the first place.

Plus, Ninja Theory? I like those guys but that's just weird.

Well, DMC obviously IS dead. DMC is defined by style as much as by gameplay. Look at these pictures, there is NOTHING left of the original games' style. Yes, he has guns like Dante did, but that's about it, even the trademark swords are missing. To say nothing about that ridicilous urban setting and the graffiti style logos... DMC architecture may not have been overly original, but the gothic architecture was much more unique than a bland modern city.

Of course, it might still be a good game, but a Devil May Cry game it is not.

I agree with Xzyliac. To me, the Devil May Cry series has always been stupid. The gameplay fun and stylish, and that's about it. Almost nothing in those stories makes any sense.

But c'mon, it's a reboot. That guy really isn't your beloved Dante. It's a different dude with the same name.
I would be more worried about the gameplay.

Sounds terrible. I dislike the new character, but the fact it's a reboot is unnecessary. The franchise didn't need a reboot, and especially not one from an outsourced company (which is basically what Capcom is doing). If it isn't the orional voice actor, and the trailer doesn't look promising, I'll be staying away from this one. Which is a shame, since DMC is one of my favorite series...
