Hey there! Here's a trailer for Catherine, Atlus' new PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 effort from the team that made Persona. It's reportedly in the "final tuning" stage and is due for a Winter release.
My Pavlovian reaction to any and all news regarding this game has been strengthened tenfold by this trailer, which shows off Katherine-with-a-K, Catherine-with-a-sexy, and OH SHI- MONSTERS. Also, Vincent seems pretty good at opening his mouth real wide.
Hit the jump for a quickie translation of some of the stuff happening in the trailer.
[Update: We've switched my terrible work with one that an actual smart person (Japanator community member Cryptnotic) came up with -Josh]
Katherine:
"Hey, are you listening?"
"Lately I've been thinking what if my parents called and said, 'What's going on?'"
"You're not hiding anything from me, right?"
TEXT:
"With the meeting of a mysterious, beautiful woman, the nightmare begins."
"Is it real love?"
"Life's choices?"
"Return alive? Die?"
Vincent:
"WTF?"
*gets an email*
"But, this pose..."
Expect more news as Dale claws his way toward the Atlus booth to get a closer look-see at the game.
Man, this game looks so fucked up. I love it.
I’m starting to wonder where this game is set, all the character names we know so far are western and more than half the people we’ve seen are blond, I just assumed it was set in Japan because it’s Atlus and the persona team no less but I don’t know...
Thinking this will end up on my purchase list when/if it hits the states (unless they censor the hell out of it)
They fail me so wonderfully.
Me want.
Fire bad.
Grrrrrr.
Some of these monster designs... fuck me, that's messed. And the music for the trailer? Spectacular. I actually had a few doubts that the OST wouldn't hold up to Shoji Meguro's standard; but wow, Catherine's OST is definitely a priority.
Vincent's got Hynpotoad eyes!
Keep it coming Atlus!
Sure, it has pretty visuals, but if you showed this thing to your average person they would think it was just a weird new anime.
If it's in the final tuning stages I want to see some damn gameplay!
We'll just have to wait and see I guess.
I think this may be the first game where wild speculation of the game's imagery and symbolism is in fact MORE rampant before it's released rather than after people have actually played it.
She doesn't feel like randomly calling her parents at all. They've been calling her and hounding her lately. She then says she has nothing to hide (and therefore doesn't need to be secretive or coy with them, though this part is implied).
Atlus is too good.
The whole "sex" thing actually doesn't interest me - it'll probably be tamer than most films that are shown in cinemas. What interests me is the colossal amount of weirdness stuffed into the game - mechanical monsters? People getting sheep eyes? Giant hands with knives?
The horror/psychological aspect of this game is what's really interesting. The sex stuff is just a loose framework around which it is wrapped.
Needless to say, I'm getting this the moment an English version comes out.
