is this series actually good? reviews made me felt other wise. I also played the intro and was at gameplay for literately 5-15 seconds and was turned off quick cause at I was at a friends house, didn't actually play it and neither has he.
Just confusing that there is already a third game for this... The game looks as if its just eye candy for a particular crowd.

Fluterguy: First one was horrible, second one was ok. Hell they basically said one dosen't exist in MK2.
@Fluterguy: Depends on what you're looking for. It's a game full of cute (and sexy) characters doing cute things in a videogame-themed world and story, with some decent character-development here and there. From a gameplay-standpoint they're certainly not outstanding JRPG's, but it works.
If you're interested in trying it however, please forget the first game exists at all. Why? Because the gameplay is terrible, and the second game improves on that quite a bit. Though most people seem to agree that the story of the first game is better.

I was browsing Amazon last week and I thought about buying a Neptunia game, but I never quite took the jump. It looks like the quirky premise and whatever story is has will be good for a few laughs, and then it will get old and then... there's nothing left. Anyone out there who played these games and liked them? By all means, prove me wrong!
Anyways, I bought Atelier Rorona instead. Hopefully it's a good one!

The first game was terrible, but I honestly enjoyed myself with the second one. Now granted, I feel there was still a lot missing from Mk2, and a few things they forgot from the first. It didn't take long for me to miss Neptune meta'ing her way through the game, as Mk2's protagonist is neck deep in the 'too dumb to live' and 'heroic stupid' categories.
That being said, I hope they keep improving the game itself. I originally got into the series because it was a fun premise, and they shouldn't forget that the games at their heart are parodies and riffs on the console wars. Keep it light-hearted please.

I'm one of the few that thinks the first game is actually superior. Rougher, surely, but a better game beneath its rough edges. And I like these games for its commentary on the industry like Segagaga, not actually the girls.
The series only sells because the sight of half-naked 14-year-olds infantilized in mind and body gives warm fuzzy feelings to full-grown men a.k.a "moe".

Majority like it because it has a fun turn-based battle system. Fun and entertaining characters and a way out there story while still being interesting. Hot anime girls is just a bonus. :-P

I'm way too old to be lusting after 14-year-old cartoon characters, so I'm gonna pass on this series. This moe shit is part of the reason why I can't get into Japanese culture like I used to.
Awh hell yea. I'll be happy reading all of the reviews of people not understanding that the games are satire on RPGs and Japanese culture. Oh, and I'll love seeing people pretend the games are sexist towards women. All in all, it'll be great to see how ignorant the gaming media is, Mk2 provided me with someone reviewing it and trashing it and posting screenshots from the wrong game.
Seriously, just don't review the game if you can't get through it. I'd much rather hear a negative review that came from someone who finished it a month after release than see all of these quickly put together, ignorant reviews that just slam it because they "didn't get it."

I've been really tempted to try these just cuz of the sheer goofiness of the plot. I have heard how terrible the first one was, and although an improvement I don't think the 2nd was very good either.
Is the 2nd worth it? Is there a way to get a good feeling for the 1st games story without having to suffer through it?

The first 2 games weren't that good (Looking back, I don't know how I finished the first one...) but I'll be getting this regardless! I'm a sucker like that!
This is RPG for Fan-service... if you are into gameplay/story. Don't even bother...

Honestly, for the fanservice, it's pretty dry. There's really not that much, and the conversation between the characters is... while somewhat over dramatic, pretty on key with actual conversations that girls have. I'm pretty sure the fan-service is to drag you into what's basically a giant satire of the games industry. And I'd say it's not by chance that the focus of this game is the gaming crash of the 80s. I think we're set up to go down this same path again very shortly. All we need is an ET to initiate it.
