At Tokyo Game Show, I stood beneath a screen that was easily two stories tall and watched the latest Final Fantasy XIII trailer with drool leaking from the corners of my mouth and surely a dozen Japanese people staring and thinking I was even weirder than usual. Honestly, I couldn't help it. Never have I been so affected by watching something I couldn't completely understand, and I felt more sure than ever at that moment that the game really did have what it takes to blow me away.

GameTrailers recently posted a subbed version of said trailer, and it quite confirms pretty much everything I was feeling when I first saw it on that titanic screen. Revealing bits of the deeper relationships between the characters, it led me to believe I really have something to look forward to from this game besides the fun of great fights and beautiful cutscenes.

What do you think after seeing this subbed trailer?

I had a similar feeling with the un-subbed trailer, even though the screen I watched it on was just a few inches, not a dozens of feet. And I'm glad it was translated - it gave a good sense of who the characters are and how they (spoiler alert!) 'relate' to one-another (see what I did there?).

...I think I actually liked it better when I didn't understand what everyone was saying. o.O

Subs mean nothing. I wouldve liked the dubs to see how good they can be/are.

I don't think they understand how important music is for the mood. At the beginning of the trailer I had nothing but teary eyes and goosebumps of excitement. This was thanks to the music fitting just right. Then that lyrical song jumped in. It's one of those songs that has no structure and no defining melody. In other words it sucked. The trailer was super long with mostly story at the end layered with that damn song.

That aside. HOLY FUCK YES I CAN'T WAIT!

I still don't fully understand what the battle system is supposed to be like. FF12? FF10? Something entirely different?

@stevenxonward think Xenogears.

@ LionheartACE

Right on. So it's essentially turn-based, but with some blitz-esque/Legend of Legaia button sequences?

@ Stevenxonward - It's certainly not FF12 or FFX. To me, the battle system seems like a Xenogears 2.0. Or Xenosaga Ep. 1 + FF6/Chrono Trigger. Something like that.

This game really does look awesome. It looks like SE really thought things through. I'm anxious to try it!

Play like Xenogears, eh?

I'm definitely interested then!

Though, oddly enough, I kinda want to play a subbed version, instead of the inevitable dub. I'm not an otaku, so I'm a little surprised I feel that way! ;)

Frankly, i'm just hoping the summonings as vehicles has functionality outside of combat... seeing what i assume to be ifrit in action during the battle seemed rather off to me... i do expect them to have some functionality as having them turn into cars would be rather pointless if it was just for combat... though i'm curious as to what that function is

Bah, I wish wish wish wish wish wish you could use japanese audio with subs and english menus.. I heard thay yanked dual audio for the 360's sake....:(

I hope they give us subs and not the crappy english voices. Very few games use good English voice actors.
If the 360 can't handle subs because of it's tiny and outdated DVD discs. Then at least give us PS3 owners subs since our system obviously CAN handle it.

Very impressed with the mouth movements and lip sync. Really too bad that it'll turn into a bad dub over here.

@ Steve Cebu

I thought the English voice acting for FF12 was quite good.

@ Infinitys End

And FF12 didn't really have out-of-sync dubbing issues that FF10 did.

I'm glad the version I buy won't have these annoying/bad female voices(the younger ones at least). So far the japanese dub looks pretty good, the only actors seeming to really be giving a stellar performance are Snow and maybe Sazh or even Lighting.

On the lip syncing, Sqaure confirmed awhile back that the lips and facial expressions are going to be re-done for the english voice track. I don't understand where all this sub crap came from, no one wanted for MGS4 or FF12. Both of those did the english dubs great(FF more than MGS, mainly because MGS actually has some of the best japanese voice acting ever aside from Sunny).

I didn't really like this trailer. The story looks like the usual overly dramatic drivel loaded with anime stereotypes, the j-pop in the second half made my ears bleed, and for the most part the gameplay visuals were not as impressive as I hoped they'd be. I'll probably still play it though... I think.

Is there a subtitled Resonance of Fate trailer............that game looks a little bit smarter than FFXIII.

Way too many cliches for botht hough and if they kill Serah, it will prove that SquareEnix is bankrupt on ideas.

As long as the voice acting is as good as 12 I'll except the fact that PS3 owners are not gonna get Japanese Audio... And for the love of god I hope they re sync the lips for English dub, I just got finished playing the original Yakuza.... and I know its not a square enix game but jesus english people trying to talk with Japanese lip syncing is both laughable and ear piercing at the same time.
