Cousin (on DMC) - I dont like it.
Me - It's just like Devil May Cry though isn't it? You love Devil May Cry
cousin - yea
Me - so whats wrong? looks like the same game to me.
cousin - i don't like it.
These fans with their panties still in a wad over this never cease to amuse me. No ones taking away the old games away from you, they are all available in some form thanks to the HD collections. Rebooting a franchise to try and do something different with it is nothing new, so why this rage at the Devil May Cry reboot?
"Because Bayonetta 2 is on WiiU, I'm looking forward to one of the worst reboots of a great franchise in recent history"

I have a feeling that this may end up being a pretty decent game that is a very bad Devil May Cry. It just looks to have abandoned everything that the hardcore fans loved about the original DMC. We will have to see...
All games they've made have reviewed well, just never sold well.
Knowing this game runs on the Unreal Engine 3 in 30fps as well doesn't inspire confidence either. Maybe if I play a demo I'll change my mind.

pretty much hits the nail on the head
and how can people say the game play looks simplified when its cutting between scenes so much, you have less than a second each time to see what they are doing. im sure theres far more to the game.
at least this dante doesnt jump like turd covered pogo stick.

Just like RE5 was a good action game but a TERRIBLE Resident Evil game. I'm starting to see a trend on Capcom...
OH SHIT! I JUST REMEMBERD! This is Capcom we're talking about!!!
Who's pumped for on-disc DLC? on day one? also costume packs and extra weapons?
Pick it up when it's discounted.
Dante does look like a twit nowadays. :P
Even with that said not much seems to have changed in Devil May Cry aside from character redesign and a new story. Gameplay's about the same combat wise and platforming just got a more prominent role. Complaining about a game shifting genres may have its merits but the uproar around DmC is just silly.

I think Resident Evil is a punchline. I think Devil May Cry falls into the same category... two franchises that started goofy and went full retard 2 games ago. You can't one-up the cheese factor with these games anymore, and the fanbase has started slipping away as a result.
You want old Dante, then awesome... there's 4 or 5 games where you get him, go nuts. Capcom's trying something different with the IP and involving a developer that's known for making really great characters and story. You don't have to like it as much as the old games, but you can't deny that both franchises are remarkably stale and dated and needed a change.
@Jamvaan A bad installment or spin-off can ruin franchises for some people. Sure Dragon Age: Origins still exists untainted, but its associated with the abomination known as Dragon Age 2, which changes my perception of the franchise in a negative way. Some people are just bitter.
Also hate the smug bastards commenting about how cool they are about liking the game over those stupid haters.
Not just that h acts unlike Dante, but as a character hes insufferably annoying
Capcom hasn't been the greatest company at all, but at least they didn't force multiplayer into this yet, and why do you have such a problem with people being pumped for the game.
The changes aren't even that substantial to compare it to the original RE to the trash produced now. Plus different devs are working on both of those games. I just see you trying to get people on your side with being upset about a game because, let's be honest here, you don't like the character's new portrayal. Which is silly because based on the trailers the core/awesome gameplay I love is still, plus it can't be as bad as DMC2 or 4
I dare say Ninja Theory could have a winner on their hands. The reason people are shitting on the game is because of the Halo Effect (not the game). People are unhappy Dante was changed from a cliché'd anime stereotype to a cliché'd western social stereotype, and now they think everything else about the game sucks, simply by association. The "fans" can explain away their hate all they want, but anyone with half a brain can see the sole reason for the hate is because of Dante's redesign. Which means Ninja Theory will once again make a great game that sells very poorly.
Fuck, I hate the way the world works sometimes.
My thoughts exactly. I think it looks decent but it kinda bothers me that they had to slap on an existing franchise's name on it when it doesn't have much to do with it. Bayonetta is a prime example of a game that follows DMC's spirit while being its own thing, I rather prefer this game be like that.
I'm quite okay with the choices, and hope the game doesn't tank. I for one will be getting it.
This game drops the frame rate in half, shortens the combos, removes all style based gameplay, and removes the aerial jump cancel ballet with 4 hit monotony. This is more akin to the simplistic God of War hack and slash (which was Ninja Theory's inspiration with Heavenly Sword) than the insane technicality that leads to the hundreds of combo videos that are a gorgeous example of God tier mastery.
The main character could be an amalgamation of My Chemical Romance and any other punk-ish rock group. I would want the technicality to remain for this to be called DmC. To lose that is to lose its identity. Looping people in by slapping an existing IP is a bait and switch and unnecessary.
Well people have criticized the following:
1. Character design (Dante doesn't look like Dante, the other characters look bland and uninspired. I think Dante doesn't look god, but looks way better than the first reveal.)
2. Combat (Too slow because of 30fps, looks more like God of war, what with the length changing weapon. Looks kid of easy based on a video of a guy steamrolling a boss with barely any strategy)
3. Platforming (Unnecessary, also copied from God of War with the hookshot things, too reliant on QTE, press x to not die)
4. Story and reboot (Was supposed to be a reboot, but changed to an AU due to backlash, showing that Capcom is not sure of what they wanted. Also Dante being half-angel half-devil)
5. Humor (Too much of the F-bomb and Dante acting like a insufferable jackass)
That was so bad I'm still convinced that Dante's appearance in Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne was more of a sequel than DMC2 was.
DmC? Jury's out on that one.
