From Software has announced Project Dark, a brand new game from the same team that brought us Demon's Souls. Like 2009's excellently bleak roleplaying action game, Project Dark will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3.
The game was shown off during the Sony press conference, but had been blacked off on Internet streams, meaning only those press who were allowed into the show got to see it. All we outsiders know so far is that it's a "dark fantasy" title, which makes it sound like a spiritual follow-up to Demon's Souls.
Demon's Souls was one of 2009's best titles, so any news of the team making more games is fantastic. Can't wait to find out more!
[Update: The official site lists the game for Xbox 360 as well, meaning it may only be PS3 exclusive in Japan. Yay!]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I just pooped a little. In my pants.
There you go Sofikk. The litterbox might just get a cool game in 2011.
Boom. Brofist.
More dark fantasy from the team that brought it? Tell me when can I preorder?
Boom. Brofist explosion. Little particles sprinkle to the ground.....
I ain't got nothing against Soffik really...he just so crazy sometimes.
Gonna own this hard.
Yeah well.. Studio Japan was involved in White Knight Chronicles and look how mediocre that is.
Hopefully it will be a success.
Seriously, teasing a Demon's Souls sequel two times in a row is just too much.
We all want DS2... Doesn't mean it calls for that kinda talk.
As a 360 owner and a college graduate, I take offense at being said I'm too stupid to enjoy a game simply because of my system of choice. Crawl into a hole and die, please.
Oh and hey, I own a PS3 too, so I get to play the game anyway! I'll try to "appreciate" this game, despite my 360 owning handicap.
If it's half as good as Demon Souls was, I'll be all over this like a fat kid on Krispy Kreme.
I'm not and didn't call you stupid at all. I'm just saying that the main audience of the 360 are primarily into shooters and not excellent RPGs like Demon Souls. That's why i feel porting Project Dark on the 360 will be waste as the 360 gamers are not big fans.
Maybe they'll see it is enough to buy a ps3 and they can be cool like me an own all consoles.
Guys, whether you like it or not, the majority of the audience for the 360 are in shooters. Doesn't mean that they would appreciate Demon's Souls, I don't understand where THAT'S coming from, but shooters are the big sellers with that particular system.
Literally, out of the entire PlayStation 3 community in my city, of the people that have bought and played Demon Souls, when I ask them why they think it's a good game, I get the response "Uhh, it's hard! lol"
So if this turns out It's Hard 2.0, as described by the fans, fuck this mess.
Also, I'm pretty sure sales for FFXIII broke a million on the 360, so the audience for RPGs is there.
Your "Sony only" comments were on the verge of adorable at first, but you've quickly regressed into idiotic stereotyping, mindless blathering and predictable trolling. And before you respond with your typical, "we are all gamers here" comment, know this: we are not "all gamers" here so long as you are busy taking up space. We are a bunch of gamers and an annoying troll who, admittedly, used to be pretty cute.
To put it more simply: I've grown tired of you.
Demon's souls was FanFuckingtastic.
Ok, it's also a really beautiful game with a really interesting setting and level designs. It has some of the most epic and memorable boss battles I've played since Shadow of the Colossus. Each of the 5 zones in the game have their own unique atmosphere, and convey it very well, from the oppressive darkness in the Tower of Latria to the grand vistas of the Boletarian Palace.
There's a great risk/reward system in place that's reminiscent of classic rogue-like games. If you die, you'll lose all the souls (Experience/Currency) you're carrying, but if you can reach where you died, you can pick them all back up again. Dying again, however, will make your old death spot disappear. Through this, it promotes cautious play, and when you start to get overconfident and reckless, you'll likely be quickly struck down. Even so, at almost all times when you die, it will be clearly your own fault, and you'll have to learn from your mistakes in order to make progress. Each enemy has its own patterns, and learning how to deal with them in various situations will be the key to progress. Finally clearing a tough section gives a sense of satisfaction that very few games provide nowadays.
To top it all off, the game offers great variety in character and weapon customization and replay value. You can build up your stats in any way you want depending on the equipment and spells you wish to use, and after you finish, you'll probably want to play again with a different set up. Or you can go into New Game + where the game asks you to take all you learned about in your first game and kick it up a notch with dramatically increased enemy difficulty where even a single mistake could be life or death.
So yes, it is a difficult game, but it's also an action rpg experience unlike any other, and the reasons for its difficulty, rather than the difficulty itself are what make people love the game so much.
b) Hope to see new innovation,
Still very much psyched, god knows how many hours were put into Demon's Souls
You are the first person to put more than a sentence in their explanation of Demon Souls. I now declare you The (only) Sony Fan With A Brain.
I'm not completely sold on the experience (it doesn't look particularly interesting to me from gameplay videos), but at least I've received an actual opinion on the goddamn thing.
