Everybody knows that
Dynasty Warriors 6 is the most important cultural event since Dio's
Holy Diver, so it should come as no surprise that I wet my pants every time
Koei Warriors updates with some new goodies. Today is a brand new trailer, hot off the Tokyo Game Show presses, which shows off a lot more of the gameplay. As you can see, this installment is finally starting to resemble its flashy cinematic movies. I don't care what anyone says, Zhao Yun's headscissors spin move is fashioned from the very purest of win.
Of course, the best news is that Zhang He, my favorite character, looks camper than ever before. The sheer gravity of this greatness can never -- never -- be understated.
As a Brucey bonus for the loyal Dynasty Warriors fans we have here, I've included some artwork that shows off the redesigned Dong Zhuo and Diao Chan as well. Diao Chan is looking pretty servicable, I must say. Dong Zhuo, less so.
This is the best thing to ever happen to us.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
THREE!
Oh, and did you get Warriors Orochi yet Jim?
Oh yes, Warriors Orochi = sex.
I don't mind the look for Dong Zhuo (he was never pleasant on the eyes to be fair). Actually looks mean and could put up a fight now.
CoffeeMan: There will indeed be a simultaneous release, but then Tretton kept saying MGS4's a PS3 exclusive as well and we all know THAT's bullshit. ;-)
The frame rate! Oh my! It's so smooth! No pop in!
HE SWAM! HE WAS IN WATER. AND HE ASCENDED A LADDER.
BEST GAME EVER.
(This post was 100% NOT sarcasm. I'm at work watching it, and giddy.)
syrup water FTL!
It still has thousands of random soldiers running toward you from all sides, simply to stop 4 feet away from you and wait to get pwned.
Oh, and you can too win using only 1 button. I've seen it done.
Here in the states this would be our #6. However the original Dynasty Warriors was a 1 on 1 fighting game. DW2 was the first to be of this gametype. So in Japan, that one doesn't count in the series whereas here it is counted for some reason.
So they're on #5. We're on #6
They then release Shin Sangokumusou on PS2 which we called Dynasty Warriors 2.
Shin Sangokumusou 2 became Dynasty Warriors 3.
So, because of the naming change in Japan – we’re ahead though we get the games later?
On a related note, this and Cronos's review makes me want to pick up Warriors Orochi this week.
Heretic: I shall hold my own launch party. I will invite Christian Slater as special guest. I think he'd do it.
Who's the girl with the bow I saw in the previews, she looks pretty sweet?
Oh and Orochi Warriors FTW
6 or 7 games of enemies and allies standing around is starting to get old.
And having watched that video just now, it's not looking good. I wish they could concentrate on their AI routines above all else and make the battle field seem more... alive.
But the past, every game is the same, large mob rushes at you, stops in your face, and proceeds to circle around you for hours and hours until you make them dead.
If you witness the friendly soldiers, you'll notice they run up to the enemies that are running up to them, both sides will stop, and circle eachother for eternity. Sometimes the game messes up and one of them will make a swing, but it doesn't actually cause any forseeable damage.
Sometimes you can catch the friendly officers doing things, but watching them take occassional swings and firing off Musou is pretty boring.
The only enemy that really ever does anything is Lu Bu, who WILL rip your army a new waste tube.
Maybe they can even get the co-op right this time around, without enemies disappearing and re-appearing in your face.
Those are the 2 areas of the game I've only ever wanted to improve. Make the rest of the soldiers in the game actually do something, and get the co-op mode to "not suck".
I know everyone has a massive boner for AI, but trust me, they don't work in games with 1000 enemies.
And I'm not talking about the kind of enemies that see that you're the player and automatically discount the rest of the enemies and concentrate on you (every Call of Duty game), but if they at least made some effort to attack something, anything. Even if the regular troops didn't do very much damage. Just to see an actual WAR going on for once, would be amazing to behold.
/still has a boner for AI
I will agree that DW AI can be a bit dumb, but if it's an issue, just ramp up the difficulty level.
Anyway, Dong Zhuo looks like he fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down, but it turned out that the ugly tree was growing off of Ugly Mountain, and that, sir, is a long fall.
