The guys over at Kotaku were lucky enough to nab
Keiji Inafune for a quick interview outside of the Tokyo Game Show, and what he had to say regarding the sequel to Dead Rising just might surprise you. Are you ready for this? The original sold well outside of Japan, and he'd like nothing more than to give us some zombie love all over again. The problem? Well... it's complicated. Just check out the following exchange Brian had with him. It says it all
: Inafune: I do really want to do Dead Rising 2. It's just still hard to get games for the Western market approved.
Ashcraft: But Dead Rising was a big hit abroad.
Inafune: It wasn't a big hit here in Japan.
Ashcraft: Why is it hard to still get Western geared games approved in Japan?
Inafune: You live here. You know how it is. That's why getting games for the Western market is still a challenge.
So there you have it -- Japan's "way of thinking" is causing the holdup. As someone who thinks Capcom is practically at the left hand of God, this disappoints me greatly. Did you somehow lose money on the game? Unless the answer is a resounding yes, a solid sequel is in order. I do have one last request before you go back to ignoring those of us outside of Japan. For goodness sake, make the text readable for us standard definition TV owners this time (we're still the majority, you know). Looking like Mr. Magoo while gaming isn't terribly sexy, and I'd hate to have to do that all over again.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

Always accepting donations, my friend. With a working TV in each room, it's hard to convince my other half that we need another one.
I thought Dead Rising 2 was confirmed and would be a no brainer. I thought Capcom liked the sound of money. Capcom have adjusted well especially to working on 360.
Yep, they need to sort out that text and the save system (maybe even the weird game task structure.
...
Okay, I lied. I love you. Don't leave me.
OOOOOOO yes and a side answer to a side question....HDTV is really fucking expensive thats why i play "HD games" on my SDTV cause I'm not loaded like that...
Come on, saving in bath rooms was nuts. Why not just replace them with ink ribbons and type writers again, because they still feel awkward like that, in the game context. You should have been able to save anywhere. 360 has a hard drive for this reason. Use it next time, Capcom. Perhaps its these reason why it didn't do that well in japan, next to 360 apathy.
REED ME BLOGS!
As for Dead Rising 2, put it on the Wii or the PS3, make the graphics less realistic, have it star a little kid or a cute girl, add more comedy and weirdness, and give it online multiplayer, and it will sell like hotcakes.
Oh, and don't call it Dead Rising 2 in Japan. In that country that name is now cursed.
And although the basic concept is great, there are numerous design flaws that can be easily addressed in a sequel - save, mission structure, voices.
The idea that executives are prepared to willfully lose money, just because they can't think outside their own country is somewhat pitiful, and one of the reasons why American games development is becoming far superior. So tharz.
They promised! :'(
dead rising Is Godzilla!!1
