A couple of weeks back there was an announcement (along with some early screens) that Vanillaware, the makers of the confusing to play, but easy to look at 2D RPG Odin Sphere, was releasing a very similar looking follow-up game exclusively for the Wii. The game is tentatively titled Oboro Muramasa Youtouden and looks to be more action-oriented than its accomplished older sister, but just as gorgeous (if not more so).
Well, now the game has finally been seen in action and, if the above TGS trailer is any indication, appears to raise the graphical bar for anything appearing on the Wii yet.
If you are even remotely a fan of classic 2D action games (especially ones starring ninjas), this looks to be a must-have title. Heck, I will even go so far as saying this game has the early potential to sell systems to some of the more “serious” gamers out there that may have so far passed on purchasing a Wii.
I am pretty much in awe. No more words are necessary. Back to watching the unbelievably beautiful trailer yet again …

This + Smash + Galaxy + Kart = I'm finally excited about the Wii.
Group Hug!!! Not you CannibalCalvin, you keep your greedy little hands where I can see them.
Why did you guys sell your Wii's after owning one for less than a year? Crack habit? Had you no faith that better games were coming soon?
As for this game, it and others like it are the reason I continue to believe the Wii will stay on top for the next five years. The PS2 ended up dominating not because of it's processing power or high amount of quality games, but rather because of the high level of variety of quality games on the system.
The console that draws in the most types of gamers wins. The Wii has this game for 2D action, a wacky turn based RPG in Oopona, a ultra violent sandbox game in No More Heroes, a Katamari game, 2 player Co-Op on rails shooter in RE:UC, multiple 2D shooters like Geometry Wars and Blast Works, Medal of Honor Heroes 2 for online FPS, God sim/RTS in Project O, online RTS in Battalion Wars 2, a Mario Kart game next year, and Smash Bros in two months.
I personally have never seen a level of variety that broad with in this short a time since launch window. The Wii continues to lack a Square-Soft style graphical powerhouse, and of course no MGS game announced (yet), but it pretty much has every other genre covered.
"Why did you guys sell your Wii's after owning one for less than a year? Crack habit? Had you no faith that better games were coming soon?"
I sold mine because the novelty wears off quickly. The Wii just isn't doing it for me. This game doesn't do anything for me, so my comment about selling my Wii is full of sarcasm. To each their own I say.
I am dumbstruck that people still say that the Wii's "novelty wears off quickly." There's just so much that's completely ridiculous about that sentiment.
I mean, think about a steak. The first few bites, amazing. Once your pallete becomes accustomed to the flavor, it isn't quite so much. But it's still a steak, it's still delicious and, although you might not want more right away, you know that a good steak is always worth coming back to.
Taking the first three delicious bites and dismissing steak altogether after the first time you're even slightly underwhelmed is just plain silly.
Remember this four or five years from now when it happens again, and you won't be so quick to sell your consoles just to have to buy them again later. Alternatively you could just wait until there are plenty of games you want to play. :)
Meh, the DS had the same initial hurdles to get over. Great potential, crappy designers. Instead of the lovely mechanic of "GRIND STYLUS INTO SCREEN!!! BLOW INTO MIC LIKE HURRICANE!!!" we just need to get past "FLAIL LIKE IMBECILE!!! PUNCH CAT IN FACE!!!"
I really don't see how it's hard to understand that the novelty wears off. It has happened to a lot of people that I know who bought a Wii. I expected to enjoy it, however, after a few days it just seemed so...boring. I had first tried the Wii on New Years and enjoyed it. After buying one I thought the fun factor would still be there, but after a few days it was most certainly gone. Games I had originally looked forward to seemed to lose their appeal, hence the reason I sold it. I will not be buying another Wii. I can understand why a lot of people enjoy the system, and I also understand why a lot of people lose interest in it very quickly You can't expect everyone to like it. Not everyone likes steak I guess.
Odin Sphere and Grim Grimoire both came to the US and have been relatively popular. I can't see at least Atlus or NIS skipping over this game for US release.
Those who didn't keep there Wii's long enough lack patience, I'm sorry (still your choice, mind). Be you casual or hardcore, if you know Nintendo DS or bothered researching (not everyones cup of tea), you'd know that even when the DS hit the U.S, it took roughly nine months until the sweet games began to arrive. Things get better within a year of launch.
I understand how you feel, when there's a drought of games. Wii is now coming out of its drought period, with more developers (smaller ones especially) figuring out what they are gonna make for it. I don't have a Wii yet, but if I can I intend to get one by this year.
Wii has games but a lot of them we'll never see officially, and of those officially selected some good ones are selected but usually accompanied by plenty of bad filler product (some licensed, some Nintendo clones) masked as Wii games. Developers and publishers are playing a part in this, as many of them have no idea what to develop for Wii and DS. Because they have taken so long standing on the shore, many have missed the boat.
Bravo to Vanillaware, the creators of this beautiful little game. Such a small developer, producing something so lovely, is testament perhaps that Wii developers indeed do not need huge budgets to make appealing titles. All it takes is a lot of imagination, heart and passion. I find this quite amazing, when big wigs of the industry struggle to create for Wii and DS.
Perhaps this is why its a good thing to own a second console along side Wii or DS, so when things slow down, you still have other stuff to play. You need more faith in your purchases, people. Rome wasn't built in a day, neither was Wii and games for it.
VWGTI- Here is where your logic fails me. You didn't get sick of the Wii as a console, you got sick of the games you had for that console. Why didn't you just sell the games you got sick of, and no the console itself?
Do you honestly think you can tell what every Wii game for the next five years is going to be like based on the games released so far?
Selling the Wii now does make sense, as you can still get more for it used than it costs to buy new. But to say "I'm no longer looking forward to any new Wii games" makes no kind of sense.
No, I did get sick of the Wii as a console. The novelty wore off for me as I stated previously. The console is based around motion, and I did not enjoy them as much as I thought I would have. I sold the console to make my money back while I could and now a person who wanted a Wii has one.
I never thought, or said I thought that the games released now would indicate what the games 5 years from now will play like. I did however say that the controls, the novelty of them, wore off quickly for me. Having tried the Wii for couple of months first hand I can honestly state that the Wii doesn't do it for me. I would much rather use a traditional controller. I don't understand why that is so hard for you to comprehend.
As for you last sentence, I do not look forward to any new Wii games. That is my opinion - therefore I stated it, not too hard to make sense of. I do not want to play Mario Galaxies, or Smash Brothers, or Mario Kart. I could care less about any new Zelda game. My most favorite series Resident Evil is a rail shooter. I do not like rail shooters. Will they come out with a more traditional Resident Evil game? Possibly, but it's not confirmed and even if one comes out I'll have Resident Evil 5 to enjoy on my 360 or PS3. Based on these facts I was able to determine that the Wii is not a console for me.
I hope the controls are good; it looks like a slick game. Hopefully there are lots of levels (or at least very in-depth levels) to make it worth full retail price.

These are delicious ninjas. I must try them.

RAWR DESTRUCTION!
A less RPGy Odin Sphere style title sounds good to me.
chad seems to have mastered mind control

Vanillaware makes hardcore games, and nothing else.
The Wii is really gonna be a system to keep an eye on.
now if I can only find time to actually play videogames during this school year, I'd be set. :(
had this been a playstation title it would be guaranteed. iffy though when it comes to titles like this for a Nintendo console
