Capcom has plans to release another edition of Resident Evil 5, although it’s not quite the “Director’s Cut” we expected. At Sony Computer Entertainment’s TGS 09 press conference, Capcom’s Jun Takeuchi revealed Resident Evil 5: Alternate Edition, a reworked version of the game that will implement PS3 motion controls.
Takeuchi was light with the details, but he did say Alternate Edition would have different content. He also revealed that potential players would play the game with the motion-controller-dildo thing in one hand and a Dual Shock in the other. On a conceptual level, this sounds like a crude control method to us -- we can’t wait to see how this works out.
As IGN points out, the visuals didn’t receive an overhaul. It’s Resident Evil 5 with a cursor, and apparently, some new (possibly Jill Valentine-themed) content. We’re still in the process of figuring out what Valentine’s voice actor was talking about in her recent interview, but it seems likely it was connected to this announcement.
Resident Evil 5: Alternate Edition ships Spring 2010 in Japan.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Is actually pretty cool.
How good is the PS-dildo at pointing? I know it has good 1:1 reception for just waggling it, but without the little pointer at the end like the Wii has...how good will it be for shooting?
Either way, RE4:Wii was the best iteration of RE4, so if this works I'll bet it's the best iteration of the RE5 version.
Too bad *coughRE5suckedcough*.
She might have just been an idiot, and she was referring to having to record a few extra lines for the slightly reworked version.
They've done a few different demos of writing with it and waved a virtual flashlight around; from a purely observational standpoint, it looks awesome.
et. al.
Holding the dualshock in one hand sounds a little goofy, but it will be like a nunchuck with the rest of the controller attached rather than a separate PS-chuck to go with the motion controller. And it will have a d-pad. If the final version of the motion controller looks like this, I think it will be a pretty versatile control system. It will have all the buttons of a normal PS3 controller, no cord between the "halves", and crazy awesome motion tracking.

Capcom owes me a Rival Schools sequel now.
At least that's what I think.
Weak.
"Now we know why it was so short to begin with."
Meh. I don't think that argument holds any water given the sheer amount of content/value RE5 shipped with. It still has more content than nearly any other $60 release this year, sans RPGs.
I want a Director's Cut with the Dual Analogs Please!!!
NO PSMotion. NO NATAL.
Only the Wii should waggle.
It will be very interesting to see how this turns out. Wii's biggest advantage over PS3/360 isn't the motion (which is really only good for about 4 or 5 games), it's being able to use the pointer controls for different control schemes.
this really isn't waggle, it's pointer control.
It's going to be very interesting to see if how many PS3 wand games coming next year will be deemed "waggle-fests", regardless of how much motion control they actually require. I have the strong suspicion that now that motion control is coming to the PS3/360, the whole "waggle" stigma will suddenly disappear.
That's what I was thinking. They're doing it with LittleBigPlanet, after all.
As for people saying this is waggle, it's not. Sony has shown more than once that this controller isn't meant to be shaken to replace button presses.
Sucks I already own this though, no chance I'm buying it again. I've already played through it like 3.5 times.
