I'm so the last guy to post about Final Fantasy stuff, but I really dig the music in the trailer so deal with it.
The trailer gives you a basic plot overview of the game and shows off the fantastic looking graphics. I'm so used to seeing MMOs look like complete ass that I was actually suprised by what I saw in the trailer. Unless of course everything in this trailer is CG. In which case, dang.
Oh, there might be some kind of card game too. Maybe it will be like Yu-Gi-Oh!
Final Fantasy XIV will be out in 2010. There's also going to be a Beta test which you can try to get on through the official Web site.
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Looks pretty cool. And it wouldn't be rats in FF, it would be hares. Beware the Omega Hare. It will rip you apart! It's somewhat endearing to see a Galka sitting down talking to a Taru. Yes I realize they changed the race names but I'm sticking with these for now.
The indoor stuff was all prerendered, there's a very clear graphical difference between the character models in the indoor scenes and (most of) the outdoor scenes.
I'm so tired of all of this "It shouldn't be a numbered Final Fantasy" nonsense. There's no logic in that statement. If XI and XIV shouldn't be numbered then VI, VII, VIII, X, X-2, XII, and XIII shouldn't be numbered either as they don't follow the traditional FF style. They have a full story, a RPG battle system, chocobos, traditional FF spells, etc. That includes the MMOs.
I'm still not entirely sure whether I'm interested in this or not. I'm not big on MMOs, and I hated FFXI, but this still looks pretty interesting. I have a feeling a lot of that simply comes from the fact that I'm WAY too into Final Fantasy for my own good.
I guess I'll just have to wait for more news to see if I'll dig this or not.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
... as in many other FF trailers
I'm pretty sure you're right, as they looks exactly like guild leves and not a trading card game. I hope they DO one, though. That'd be great.
Why? This game won't have XP or levels. Unless you want rat pelts.
I guess I'll just have to wait for more news to see if I'll dig this or not.
its not all prerendered, only the scene with the giant crystal in the middle and the last scenes were prerendered
any more details on that?
