TGS 09: Final Fantasy XIII-themed PS3 revealed photo

Square-Enix unveiled the Final Fantasy XIII-themed PS3 at TGS. The new unit is a white PS3 Slim with a light pink stencil of the character Lightning on the top. The portrait of the protagonist is accompanied to the right by a light grey version of the PS3 branding, while more pink scribbling sits just above the disc trey.

This unit comes with a 250 GB hard drive, as well as a white controller. As of right now, it’s Japan-only kind of thing with a release date of December 17. No North American date or confirmation was given.

Initially teased at Square-Enix’s press conference in early September, we assumed this bundle would be a hit with Final Fantasy fans. So, is it?

The fattie ps3s still look better, but I think this is better looking than the black slims. I haven't seen the slims in person, but they look so "cheap" in pictures.

Normally not one for themed consoles, but white, FF themed PS3?

Fuck yes. Want.

Now that looks a lot better than the regular old black.

Amazing what a different color palate can do....

Didn't really like the pink, a shade of gray or a something would fit better to my taste. Although I guess the character Lightning is kinda pinkish.

*gasp* Gimme, gimme, gimme!!!

I'm paying out of my ass right now to get a white Slim. This would totally lighten my budget (although I'd still be springing for white controllers).

Funny how PS3 owners condemn the Special Edition MW2 360 but are drooling over PS3. Is double standard a typical sign of Sony Defense Force?

A pink-stenciled one at that.

Further proof that since FF8, the series has been aimed at girls. The only "manly" character I can recall in between 8-13 was Auron in 10 - and he was a righteous pimp.

You know what? Make a FF game based on samurai. That would be suffciently rad, as the ladyboys would be badasses, and the ladies and boys would be badasses with discernable genders.

well look at what your comparing man. Final Fantasy, an esteablished RPG series going over 20 years Vs. Call of Duty, over 10 years of shooting people. Plus the MW2 360 is pretty ugly.

What about Basch Fon Ronsenburg? Gabranth? Jecht? Steiner?

Bleh, too pink for my taste.

@Czech Monster

yes, it is double standard. A console isn't allowed to have a video game themed edition unless the video game in question is over 20 years old.

well you really have to weigh out the two if your going to compare them.
MW2 xbox 360 - 400$
special edition case
250 GB HDD
TWO wireless controllers ($50 each)
headset (meh)
Game ($60)

PS3 Slim
Special Edition Case
250 GB HD
1 wireless controller
Price???

I think right now its safe to say that the xbox360 is more value for the doller until Sony says cost and what it actually comes with (if it doesnt include FFXIII then that is automatically lose for Sony).

@Diverse - We'll ignore Cloud (since so many people seem to think he's girly, which I just cant see at all but whatever), which leaves us with Barret, Cid, Vincent, and Red XIII. All pretty manly dudes, even if one is a dog-thing.

I wasn't trying to start an argument, just stating a fact. And since the age of the franchise is a qualifying factor for Limited Edition anything, how about Limited Edition Pong console? That has been around forever and no one will complain!

@Nyktharas;

That Japanese Manual broke the ice for me, a definite pre-order.

The Japanese manual will probably give me just as much enjoyment as the people who spent $60 on ODST to play fire fight for 2 days before it becomes boring, and stale.

you want bc, go buy a dam ps2. or ebay a 60 gig. quit bitchin because you didn't spend the $600 to get a bc launch console like i did.

I don't even like Final Fantasy but I still think that looks great.

@TOEmastro

Is it so bad to want Backwards compatability? People complain about the Xbox not having wireless and the PS3 not being Backwards Compatable is just as bad. It's a valid complaint. (Not to mention one most likely made by a PlayStation Fan if he has enough PS2 games to want BC.)

Even with the pink stencil, that is by far a better lookig PS3 than the standard ones. I am pretty much a whore for anything Final Fantasy themed, though.

Can anyone remember what the very first "special edition" console was? In the U.S.?

If FFXII hadn't been so bad, I'd buy one of these in an instant. But since the last game failed so hard, I'm waiting for FFXIII to actually come out before I buy into any hype or eve think about spending a penny on it... but that Slim does look mighty fine...

It's striking I'll say that. Not sure how I feel about a specific character stencil before the game comes out. I mean how would you feel if you bought a special edition ps2 with Tidus on the cover before the game had come out?

I'm just saying...slap some Yoshitaka Amano artwork on there and listen for the universal splooge.
