A brand new trailer has surfaced for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and it is stupidly amazing. If you're an MGS fan, you owe it to yourself to hit that link and check it out. The story sounds like a true-blue Metal Gear Solid game, and it's almost a shame that this is going to the PSP and not a console.
I am getting very excited indeed for this new game, and have the TGS demo all downloaded and ready to try. How about you chaps, want to try it right now? You can download the demo from this torrent or via IGN. Installation is easy - just check the release notes below for installation.
Pumped for more portable MGS, or are you longing for a console version?
Here's how to install it:
# You need Firmware 6.0 on the PSP (Not if you use version.txt ;)) # Download and unzip the file below. # Install the file by going into USB Mode on the PSP. # On your computer go to the PSP folder, then the game folder, then drop "NPJH90063" into that folder.
Enjoy the demo, and know that if you get a rank of A or S you get an exclusive PSP wallpaper. Also, if you have a friend with this demo, you'll be able to play co-op.
HOW TO GET IT TO WORK ON 5.50 GEN-B!
First of all, make sure you have CFW 5.50 GEN-B. Now get into recovery mode > Advanced > Toggle USB (flash0)
Now on your PC, create a text file in notepad and copy/paste the following line:
(NOTE: In notepad this will appear as one line, keep it like that) Save the text file as call it ''version.txt''
Now, go to Computer > Memory stick (Flash0) > VSH > ETC Here you will find the version.txt file. Make a backup and then copy the version.txt file you just made there. Overwrite it.
Now, you will ''trick'' the game so it thinks you have firmware version 5.55, while you actually have 5.50.

It just sucks that it's mostly in Japanese. Does anyone know what they want from you once you're on the beach with the gun? I shot the heads of the dummies, tried shooting the red balls in the water. What do I do?
Doesn't the story told in the trailer sort of contradict MGS4? I thought he didn't establish Outer Heaven until telling the Patriots to fuck off, and this game doesn't seem to involve them at all. Unless this is supposed to take place after that for some arbitrary reason, in which case WHEN THE FUCK ARE WE GETTING A GAME ABOUT THE PATRIOTS.
I love destructoid for telling CFW users how to play it.
Were not all bad but like with most things your always going to have those rotten apples ruining it for everyone else.
What Anthony said is pretty much true. He didn't start Outer Heaven until he told the Patriots to fuck off. Maybe Kojima is throwing a fast one at us for whatever reason? It's always weird to play a prequel game after basically every loose end in the series is tied up with MGS4. But I do want to play this, if only because it's a friggin' MGS game.
I realized that maybe Kojima is trying to keep The Patriots a secret (for some silly reason) and may be alluding to us the fact that they are involved by Big Boss's mention of the new army being backed by the CIA. That's the best I could come up with.
I believe that takes place during the game itself? I mean those baddies we might be facing off are secretly the patriots. Remember that the Patriots controlled the US? So they could to an extent be controlling the CIA itself. BB is probably just hinting to them but not saying the patriots out loud.
I can't wait until I hear about the story from all 5 people who own a PSP.
Wait...I'll just wikipedia it when it comes out.
::cries::
@Anthony
I'm sure the Patriots are going to be woven in tons of Codec conversations, and he's just keeping them out of the trailer. If he does keep them out, it may just be because he wants to focus on Big Boss as a character instead of the overarching story.
Anybody think this'll get a PS2 port like the Ratchet and Clank series and Jak and Daxter: Lost Frontier? Seems this bigger PSP titles also get PS2 ports. So we could see this on a console yet.
Right, but characters in the trailer say that he's already broken off all ties and allegiances with the US by the time he gets the mission to save/blow up/whatever Central America, which seems to imply that Shit already Got Real with Zero and everyone.
if you're stuck on the beach, blow up the gate door with a grenade. if you don't have a psp, the original is only 99 bucks. Get one, this demo is amazing.
honestly, this is why big boss is my favourite and mgs3 is my favourite game ever. Its not as bogged down with the whole super complicated story and u get a nice deep story thats not as likely to confuse you.
@anthony: Well then i guess this is just a plot hole we should just ignore.
That demo impressed me more than I expected, both in presentation, and how passably the controls worked. Yes, they're obtuse, and convoluted, and unnecessarily complicated, largely due to the lack of second analog stick, but I'll get used to it along with most other players.
I can't wait to dive into this piece of the metal gear storyline, which I find worlds more interesting than the rubbish that spawned towards the series' end.
If you played Portable Ops, it kinda hints at this. Portable Spoilers ahead:
+++++++++++++++++++++++
The final scene of Portable Ops shows Ocelot killing his commanding officers in the CIA and reclaiming the entirety of the Philosophers legacy. He also is seen talking on a phone to a mysterious someone about having recruited Snake and another mysterious someone else.
1) The Patriots were formed somwhere between the events of Portable Ops and Peace Walker, and by Peace Walker(or in Peace Walker), Snake turns his back on them and establishes Outer Heaven.
Or...
2) All those events happened prior to Peace Walker(after Portable Ops though), and will be referenced in flashback conversations and such. The phone conversation backs this theory more than the first one.
Ok, now to comment on the actual post(sorry for double posting BTW).
That trailer gives me the impression that this will be a much darker Metal Gear game than expected. Fitting I guess since it's suppose to highlight when Big Boss became considered the enemy of the world, but I didn't really expect it.
I'm also glad someone found a way to make the demo work on custom firmware, but I can't download it here at school since all US universities block any sort of torrenting activities. I really want to try it out too...
That was fucking beautiful. That's how you make a trailer. And I doubt that there will be any plot inconsistencies, but I wouldn't care if there were. Honestly, I think 2 fucked the story up beyond repair. It was like the Alien 3 of MGS games. You can't really keep going forward after it. 4 did a decent job of damage control, but it suffered because of 2. I'm so glad Big Boss' story is being told, because it doesn't have as much baggage from 2 and 4, and honestly, Big Boss is more interesting than Solid Snake. And about 100 times as interesting as Raiden. So yeah, this game looks amazing. Still hoping for a WWII MGS though.
Hopefully this explanation will make sense (well as much sense as a storyline involving the United States being controlled by an AI and a US president who is the clone of a Cold war mercenary and who uses katana blades)
Oh, i forgot : SPOILERS!!!
Big Boss left the Patriot because of the Les Enfant Terrible project, which was around 1972. This game takes place in 1974, two years after, so i think he has abandoned the US at this point. Also the army in the game is called Military Without Borders, which technically is not Outer Heaven yet. The game may talk about his final transition from Naked Snake to Big Boss
END SPOILERS!!!
Although not mentioned in the trailer, i would expect the Patriots to be part of the Costa Rica invasion.
I'm hyped for the game. MGS may be my favorite piece of fiction ever, due to the Schizophrenic clash of historical realism and sci-fi military anime. Plus i must concur that I now like Big Boss as a character more than Solid Snake, as BB seems to be a more bad-ass and sympathetic version of Snake. Almost like a Darth Vader-ese figure in the games
I believe that Kojima has realized this too, as this will be Big Boss, third full Solid game. Solid Snake only has 2.5. (Sons of Liberty was co-starring Snake). His Big Boss games have a different feel and theme to the Solid Snake feature ones.
What do guys think? Big Boss? Solid Snake? Or am i just talking out my ass here?
Thatdude3214 has it right. Unless I'm forgetting something, the closest we got to an indication of when Jack quit the Patriots is "after the les enfants terribles project", which took place in 1972. I'm actually curious as to whether we'll get to see baby Snakes in this one. In any case, it looks like a proper MGS game, much more polished and with greater attention to the story than the mess Portable Ops was. Hopefully it will serve both purposes, as a proper sequel to MGS3 and somehow helping make sense of Portable Ops. I hate retcons.
I downloaded it last night and played it, its not to bad, the controls are decent. Ill give it a rent when it comes out. I would really like to see how it will evolved the MGS story line.
That trailer makes me so incredibly excited. I'm going to have to force my PSP-owning buddy into buying it so I can play.
Oh, and did anybody catch that one really interesting line said by that female voice about The Boss? "I'm the one she abandoned when she left this world. I will never be able to rest until I get answers from the woman I loved"
This seems like it could be implying only two things: Either The Boss was a lesbian, or she has a daughter we don't know about. I'm pretty sure the latter will turn out to be true. Revolver Ocelot might have a sister! I wonder what archaic and inefficient weapon she'd use?
Alright, so this demo is pretty fucking awesome. d/l it.
I took a guess, and was correct, because the inverted scheme was bugging me.
Anyway, is the co-op ad-hoc only, or wi-fi too? I can't quite figure it out.
Holy crap, I get such a weird feeling watching this trailer cause I'm from Costa Rica, and it's just so strange to see armies, tanks and whatnot in there haha this is probably the only game than can bring me close enough to buy a PSP...though I still probably won't, I'm waiting for my DSi...damn Kojima, you have such strong powers!

No, the San Heironimo incident was pretty much the break-off point for Snake. Keep in mind that this game takes place in '74, 3 years after Les Enfants Terrible was put into motion. THAT was the "piss off" point for Big Boss.
*SPOILER ALERT*
We've already had a game about the Patriots--MGS3, Portable Ops, 1, 2, and even Metal Gear. They're all there--young or old, however you want them. They're not field ops, despite MPO making them all playable as one. I mean, how much more do you want of them?
Also, I'm just stoked that Master Miller finally gets into the story for the first time chronologically. I wonder if "Huey" is Otacon's father and the girl is in fact a long-lost daughter of the Boss? Maybe we'll get to preview where Hal got his neuroses from.
Of course, I'm really interested in seeing what that half-naked guerilla gal is all about too...
@Thatdude3214 Sorry, but no--

Do you think this typo was an accident? Nonetheless this game is looking fantastic, reason enough to buy a PSP.
