TGS 08: XBLA invasion: Space Invaders Extreme, Arkanoid, Metal Slug 7, more photo

Straight from Microsoft's Tokyo Game Show 2008 keynote, a plethora of Xbox LIVE Arcade titles have been announced. And because everything looks sexier when in bullet form, here's the list of upcoming games:

  • Space Invaders Extreme - port of Taito's excellent DS/PSP title
  • Arkanoid Live - 120 levels, co-op, versus modes
  • Metal Slug 7 - a new entry in the MS series, yay! (but still a port nonetheless)
  • The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match - coming in 2009
  • R-Type: Dimensions - 2-player local/online co-op, switch between 2D and newly designed 3D look
The theme here is obviously that of classic titles, which is not a bad thing from where I'm standing. Yes, very little details were given about these XBLA games, but that's where patience comes in. More info is sure to come as TGS continues.

Next up is the trippy seizure-inducing remake of Pong.

These remakes are cool and all but theres got to be more ideas out there somewhere.

If Space Invaders and Metal Slug 7 are $10 I would buy them day 1.

SI Extreme is fun...but it is BALLS hard, as a high score game -- they really do not expect you to survive for very long ><

Holy shit. I'm stoked for all of those. I'd rather have most of those on my Xbox rather their primary console release. I'm hoping this means KoF will have online competition. And perhaps for Metal Slug to have coop? I'm pretty sure the DS version does not, so I doubt they will change that for the XBLA release. But a man can dream.

@HeavyD - I'd be willing to bet that KoF will have online vs. and Metal Slug will have co-op of some kind.

I heard Metal Slug 7 was bland and uninspired. I also need to play Space Invaders Extreme more because god that is a beautiful game and I don't even like Space Invaders.

God microsoft keeps releasing great paddle games, but no paddle! Arkanoid, Tempest, even space giraffe would benefit from a paddle and maybe become a decent game! Give me my paddle microsoft!

I used to love Arkanoid when I was younger. That shit's oldschool.

I can now have an excuse to run "Tom Sawyer" when I play Space Invaders Extreme on XBLA.

I refuse to play Space Invaders Extreme without a paddle controller.

I'm terrible at the Metal Slug games, but I love them anyway.

If I didn't already pick up Space Invaders Extreme on the DS, I'd probably buy it on XBLA.
