TGS 08: Sephiroth and Snake make their LBP debut photo

Just announced at TGS today, two rather famous faces will be joining LittleBigPlanet: Solid Snake and Sephiroth! Just when you think this game can't get any cuter or show any more love for its audience, somehow it manages to surprise you. Playstation Blog caught up with Media Molecule's Alex Evans a few minutes before the announcement, and he shared a bit about how it all came about:

It all started with the Helghast thing. It was really funny because we were aware of a lot of possibilities of who we could work with. I remember the first time that Final Fantasy was mentioned, and there was a bet over whether it would be happened since it’s such a precious franchise.

And with Metal Gear, I bought my PS1 for Metal Gear Solid, and I didn’t have a memory card – so I left the game on when I went to work and came home and played some more.

To be involved with MGS is… slightly bizarre. When we were looking at what options as a studio we’d have to work with, they were under the “yeah, right!” category of games.

LittleBigPlanet
and Sackboy have a strong identity and flavor. So then you try to find the translation to Metal Gear and Sephiroth, and the guys that made the characters really brought the flavors of LittleBigPlanet and Metal Gear together and kept the flavor of both of them

[On Final Fantasy collaboration:] It’s a whole universe, and they’ve built up this ethos. And we’re honored to be let into that universe.

This got me thinking -- I'm not a huge fan of downloadable content, but if Media Molecule released costume packs on a monthly basis featuring famous game characters, I'd probably be interested. Cloud Sackboy? Moogle Sackboy? Travis Touchdown Sackboy?

[Thanks, Joe]

Eh. I like seeing creativity but I don't care much for Final Fantasy.
If they were to release some manner of Street Fighter or Darkstalkers SackBoys, then we'd be talking.

Are the Sackboys not customizable enough on their own for a user to make these? I figured they would be, but now that I think about it, I haven't seen any crazy user-created Sackboys.

First, it was the Kratos outfit that Gamestop is giving out for preorders. Then, it was the code for the God of War themed level. Now this...Damnit video game industry, I got enough coming out that week to pick up! Stop tempting me motherfuckers!

@Dexter: Well, the actual game really hasn't come out yet, so it's hard to know just how deep the customization can go.

This would be the only game I've yet to see where I'd be happy to pay for purely cosmetic DLC.

My sockey-sense is tingling, and I see a whole world of customization possibilities with these lil things.

Looks like I've got to start saving for a PS3...
