I am kind of suffering from a severe case of retro shock right now. I don’t have much to say.
Ignore the repetitive level design (for now); this new video of upcoming Wii exclusive Muramasa: The Demon Blade is some of the most exciting, beautiful videogame footage I have ever seen. It makes Ninja Gaiden and Shinobi look like Gizmondo games.

Looks like a Jap version of Odin Sphere (since they were both done by Vanillaware). Even in the trailer, the minigame-length levels were kinda annoying.
'Bout time we got our mitts on some new footage, heh heh. It looks to retain a bit of "Odin Sphere-ness" in that it looks like you have to select some of your special attacks from a pause screen, not to mention that you appear to be "graded" for your efforts afterwards (no reward items in sight, though) but for the most part you're just beating the heck out of stuff. It also seems that you're switching between locations very rapidly, though that might have just been the demo showing off a bunch of different backgrounds.
Being a Vanillaware game of course it looks great, and being a fan of theirs I'm all but assured of picking this up at some point - what point that will be, however, will be determined as more info comes out (and how the localization is handled).
It looks a lot like Odin Sphere. I absolutely loved Odin Sphere and although I still own it, have yet to beat it. This is because it got really repetitive. I hope this one doesn't fall into the same trap.
Just from looking at that I have no idea how that is going to control but I'll be damned if it doesn't look amazing. I was a little weary of Odin Sphere because some of the combat and design choices, but if VW improves it I'll be sold.
@Hitomoroshi and KMCC: The game will have classic controller support, it was apparently mentioned when it was confirmed that the game was coming to the US, here.
I believe that a PAL localization was announced as well, though I'd have to dig for a link on that one.
I only have one issue with this and that is the fact that I HATE being timed in a game. Otherwise, this looks like a definite must-have for any Wii owner. I am certainly glad to be one.
This looks gorgeous, and should be what a modern 2D platformer looks like. Hopefully they'll be a little more depth to gameplay or story, but if there isn't it will still be fun as a simple sidescroller. :)
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

When does this come out?
Seriously. I must know.
my interest is still piqued, but i'm not nerding out as much as i thought i would.
Seconded
However, the boat scene sold me.
The combat seems to have the same kind of 'cut-through-everything-and-look-awesome' mindset to it.
Already have the $ earmarked

The Great Wave Off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai
My only worry is what the controls will be like on the Wii.
I really don't think level design is a factor in these games, it's not the focus. Given that, mini-levels are, in my opinion, a good design choice.
I can't wait for this...

That's exactly what I was thinking. I was confused at the beginning because a good bit of them seemed exactly the same.
Vanillaware....make my babies. NAO.
reminds me of odin sphere but much faster... which is AWESOME this game looks great
If they can ditch the time attack mode and get some good level design...
