Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

OK, so here's the deal: the above is video footage of Noby Noby Boy (courtesy of Gamevideos.com) taken from a trailer that was being played in Sony's theater on the floor of Tokyo Game Show.

So what is it? Well, it's the new game designed by Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi. We searched far and wide for a playable build of the game here in Tokyo and have come up with nothing. We asked around, trying to find out just what the game was about, and because no one really speaks our language (or no one was willing to talk), that was a dead end.

According to a fact sheet provided by Sony, the game is described as -- and we quote -- "The new game from Keita Takahashi, the creator of Katamari Damacy!!", which may be the mostly completely useless game discription ever. The genre? "TDB." The game is being published by Namco Bandai, and will be excusive to the PlayStation 3. It's also interesting to note that the screens and info for Noby Noby Boy were found in the PlayStation Network section of Sony Japan's press site, so it's likely we're looking at a digital download title (although that hasn't been officially announced or confirmed).

OK, so uh, WTF is Noby Noby Boy? We have no idea, but we're definitely interested in finding out.

wow,it looks...um..interesting? Is that the word I'm looking for? The plot looks pretty racist to me. What, with the worm putting the "beat-down" on those poor blocks. I sense another RE5 controversy.

How obscure. I'm sure there will be some kind of ingenious gameplay device behind all of this, right?
Right?

One of the big reasons I got a PS3.

I trust Keita Takahashi 100%.

The shit?

The average indie game has more style than this, so if this is actually the look they're shooting for they'd better hit the drawing board. And the gameplay seems more or less nonexistent.

This is absolutely nothing like his tech demo. Nobi Nobi Boy apparently means something like stretchy boy, and the original concept was to involve stretching in some way. I don't see why they kept the name but not the slightest hint of the original concept.

Dude, It is kinda obvious that this is some kind of 2d teaser. I really doubt the whole game is like that. The demo looks like slinky man where you control each end of the slinky with one of the analog stick, maybe to heard animals???

DUDES does noboy remember this??! There was a bunch of awesome stuff about it back in the day! But then we heard nothing. Apparently he wants it to ship with a controller that like one of giant tubes made of that crackly, bendy stuff like in bendy straws. and you bend that around to control it!

Of course, it's been so long since I read that, that I've lost the source :( Back then it was Nobi Nobi, not Noby Noby...
